Not only "the Delta" is your new last name on occasion, get used to hearing "that Delta" as your new first name and your regular name as your middle name too as in "that Delta Tigger."

A friend of mine who happens to be a Delta inform me that if you happened to be a prospect get to the know a Delta as a person and on a friendly level. I have many friends who are Deltas and we were cool before the letters and we will be cool after the letters. Ive learned that they are going to be cool peeps regardless of their organization. So dont get pressed over the letters.
On the flip side, for all the greek members please understand that there are a lot of us who are ignorant on the do's and do nots. I think it would be helpful if you educate someone so they dont continue their mistake somewhere else. Thanks
Just giving out some advice for the inquiries.

In terms of this board, you can educate yourself. There is a little gick called a search engine. Many of these type of topics have been discussed in the NPHC forums in the past.

I really don't mind young ladies coming up to me asking questions, as long as you keep it on a business level. If you weren't my friend before, don't be my friend now. However, feel free to ask questions about DELTA. I think it needs to be clear that Delta and friendship are two different things.
One of the worst things that I ever encountered was when I was on campus and I had my letters on my bag. Well, a young lady came up to me and started asking questions, etc., which was no problem. Well, I guess she got too comfortable and said, "Well, to be honest with you, I really want to join a sorority because I want to step." Only God kept me from stomping her through the floor, but I kindly told her that if she were interested in stepping, she should join a step team and DEFINITELY not a sorority.

Ignore the game show portion and just go with the #1 answer. This has absolutely nothing to do with RM.

First, lemme address the topic at hand:
My biggest issues was when I wore my letters, I had all kinds of folk approaching me, saying that they were an Alpha Phi Omega, but didn't even know the most basic of info.
Prime example (true story), some black woman, who was either low income or homeless would sell Little Debbies snack cakes individually (the ones you would find in a 10-12 pack) at the corner of Broad and High (the heart of downtown Columbus) to get some change. Anyhow, she would approach me on the COTA bus and would proclaim to be my brother trying to BS her way into having me give her some change. But the only info she knew was that she went to Ohio State. Couldn't even tell me when she joined, she would just say she pledged at OSU. Needless to say, she didn't get a cent from me.
The only other instances I recall when I wore my letters was that everyone whe knew of me via the letters and saw me at Greek parties and whatnot would call me "Mr. Alpha Phi Omega Man", or something to that effect.
The most annoying FAQ I get from folx when I wear my letters is (Slide it, Earl!):
What's that? [read: Alpha Phi Omega].
It got to the point that I would direct them to www.apo.org (which we didn't get as an official website domain until 1998). Prior to that, we had a website that was pretty similar to our current one that was ran by a brother named Fuzz (the website address was extremely lengthy and difficult to remember).
Fortunately, I am spared the folk who express their interest and intent to join APO. After a while, it would've gotten real old real fast.
Now that that's out of the way.......

Where's my microphone? Where the blank is my microphone?
HC the studio audience is only at quarter capacity?
Hmmm. Microphone missing, low audience turnout. Can only mean one thing.....
CRRRRRIIIIMMMMSSSSSON TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE!!!!!
*RM walks out of Studio 33 and heads for a neighboring studio*
....Girl 'gon just jack me for my prized microphone and then my audience, then 'gon say it's got nothing to do with me? Yeah, gurl, let you tell it. Well, it's awn (read: on) now!!!
[Jokes, just jokes yall. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread]

But why is it a problem when someone goes up to a newly crossed Delta and congratulate her? Or whats wrong if a prospect approaches a Delta in a respectful way to inquire information about her organization? I mean i hear people say all the time that it's good to establish a relationship with a Delta if you are a prospect. I'm just asking questions for honest clarity. Im not askin them to offend anyone or like I stated before to piss anyone off. I honesty just want to know. OR if it something I will never understand unless I become a Delta then i understand. Thanks.

You totally missed the point the young lady was trying to make. It is a very kind thing to congratulate someone on their crossing, or INTRODUCE yourself and THEN ask questions about XYZ organization. But don't be like "hey I saw you come out on the yard last week, um is y'all having a line next semester, because I want to pledge? Can I have your phone number so I can call you to find out what is going on with XYZ? Hey you want to go to the movies, or to the basketball game, or be the godmother of my first born? What's your name again?
Ya know? Sorority women are people too, and ALL of us have been where you are, so we know the game.
I am always flattered and humbled when someone congradulates me on my membership (and polite and receptive).

while you all have been TRYING to be funny, you STILL didn't answer anything. What's wrong with speaking. You act like you are so above everybody and that 3 greek(which ya ain't)letters make you better than someone who doesn't have them. Someone congratulating you or asking you questions is not a damn sin. Some of you all are so full of yourselves, it's ridiculous. Oh and the reposting of my previous statement about yall being all up on the Kappas? That still stands. Sorry, my man don't want nan one of yall!
