I go to UCSB and while the fraternities are a little bit on the down side due to new greek policies, I can say that the sororities are probably as strong as ever. The top houses are Alpha Phi, DG, KKG, Theta, and Pi Phi. The other houses are AXO, ADPi, AEPhi, Tri-Delta, Gamma Phi, and I think Sigma Kappa might still be around.

There are 11 fraternities: Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI), ATO, Beta, Pike, Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi, Sig Ep, AEPI, Lambda Chi Alpha, Theta Chi, and Phi Sigma Kappa. Membership ranges from 80-30 men.

You're right, AGD used to be at UCSB but it was definetly a while ago. Tell your cousin that the greek system at UC-Santa Barbara is definetly worth checking out.

Last time I heard Sigma Kappa was doing well and was planning on participating in Formal Recruitment.

Yep they're the second biggest, i think they have 130-140... I believe ADPi and Kappa both have somewhere between 110-120, and Theta being the newest has around 100 sisters.

At CSUS there is 7 NPC sororities and 11 IFC fraternities. Also numerous multicultural sororities and fraternities. It's a commuter school so the greek system is not large compare the number of people the school. We hae 28,000+ students and about 1000-1500 greeks. We are tolerated here. Not good support. No greek housing, maybe 5 fraternities have houses.

At CSUC, it is a strong greek system. They have greek row and stuff. It's a college town.

i go to chapman university, and while our greek system is a little smaller than your average ca school (we only have like...4,000 undergrad), a large percentage of the student body is involved, and its a pretty strong community we all get along pretty well and support each others events and stuff, and its just a really nice place to be greek we cant have houses though...thats the only thing that kinda stinks..

My impression of a few of the CA schools you mentioned:

I attended CSU Stanislaus. The Greek Life there is very small (no greek housing) but I loved the personal attention and I felt the school really supported Greeks coming to campus, because we are such a positive influence. As small as the greeks are on the school, the school is small too, so it fits. In the quad between classes, you will always find greeks sitting together in the sun or playing volleyball. Plus its a lovely park-like campus with new dorms.

I dated a guy from CSU Fresno (and my best-friend went there). Compared the Stanislaus, they have a "real" greek system with lots of parties and houses. We always had a great time there on exchanges, though it got a bit wild at times. It's really hot there.

My husband attended UC Davis and was in a fraternity but found that the school in general is very academics based, so there was more studying then partying going on. It was sometimes hard to pull people away from homework to get them to do fun stuff. But this could have just been his impression. It is a beautiful area with a great downtown and EVERYONE is into saving mother earth.

Those were the schools that I know about. Good luck with your decision.

This is true...The SCU Greeks are currently not recongized by the fraternity, but most of the houses have grown two or threefold since we moved off of campus. The sororities (DG and A-Phi) are way over capacity at like 160 members each, and Kappa Alpha Theta begun a colony right at the end of the last school year. They will begin recruiting this fall. The fraternities (Sigma Pi, Pi Kappa Alpha, and a local called Cal Phi, formerly SAE) are currently around 80 members each. The Cal Phi group is significantly smaller than Sig Pi and Pike. Additionally, Sigma Lambda Beta, a latino fraternity, has begun rushing with the IFC fraternities and is growing rapidly (currently around 30 members).

I'm excited to be joining the greek system at Chico...they have lots of houses although I'd call it more of a greek "cluster" than a row...the houses are kinda spread out. Also, the houses themselves tend to be on the smaller side (the Alpha Phi houses only about 17 women) but the org's numbers are close to 100 I think.....

Just an observation...when people say things like "there are only 2 sororities at XYZ university" even though there are NUMEROUS NPHC, LGLO, etc. organizations at that particular school, it makes it sound like you don't think that anyone who is not NPC or IFC counts. I hope you have just failed to make the distinction that you are only speaking about "traditional" organizations. I appreciate those who have taken the time to either list the non-NPC/IFC groups, or have at least acknowleged their existence throughout this thread. If you are going to talk about greeks in California, you MUST talk about ALL groups. In particular, the LGLOs founded in CA (and there are a few) have become increasingly strong over the years, and contribute greatly to the CA (and national) greek community.

Actually... LMU is a great school my bestfriend just graduated there, and from what she tells me, thier teachers are VERY involved with their students and it's just a great school socially and academically. I went there for her graduation ceremony and the campus is BEAUTIFUL!!! Personally I think that it's one of the nicest looking campuses in CA, and I have seen quite a few. Anyhoo... at their Undergraduate graduation ceremony their speaker was Mel Gibson, and it was REALLY NICE!!! Also, their ;aw school is bretty good, not as good as UCLA or Cal, but it's up there.

PS... if anyone has a chance to go there DO, and check out the view that they have!!!!

My biological sister graduated from LMU a few years ago; THE FONZ - Henry Winkler - was the commencement speaker. My sister was in the Kappa Alpha Theta colony.

Oh, by the way, I have to respectfully disagree with Imulca -- LMU is NOT better than USC!!

I'm a greek at Fresno State And I have to be totally honest, the Greek System here has totally gone to shit.

Numbers are down.
GPA's are down.
Several chapters have lost their homes.
There is no real unity amongst greeks.
Fresno P.D. break up every single party no matter how it is ran.
And it's not getting better because we have an anti-greek administration.

i cant speak 4 all da systemz but da multicultural greek system in ucsd is arrite..as far as can tell..da administration is pretty chill bout thingz..but off-campus nobody has official close 2 campus houses cuz da community is pretty anti-greek
