I AM NOT GREEK (YET ANYWAYS) AND I WAS WONDERING IF YOU ALL THINK IT WOULD BE WRONG FOR ME TO ATTEND INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS OF DIFFERENT SORORITIES. THAT DOESNT TECHNICALLY MAKE ME "INTERESTED" DOES IT? I JUST KINDA WANT TO KNOW WHAT SOME OF THEM ARE ABOUT. I HOPE THEY DONT GET THE WRONG IDEA. IF (WHEN ) I DO PLEDGE, I WAN TO MAKE SURE IT IS WITH THE RIGHT ORGANIZATION SO I WONT BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT REGRET IT.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL!
THANKS

My best advice is to understand the climate on your campus. At Texas A&M, the NPHC has a general informational where all NPHC chapters on campus give info about their org. This way noone is 'singled' out for one group. And, if you are not sure then don't try to join any org. It sounds as if you still need time to understand each greek org and you need to understand what you can contribute to an org of your interest.
Another piece of advice that I can give is to be discreet on your intentions and respectful of all greeks on campus. While you may have an intention to join one org, bad-mouthing the other orgs is a big no-no. If a prospective showed up to my informational and was saying bad things about the other chapters, then I would not want to extend an invitation to her to join my chapter, it indicates bad greek unity. Also, people talk. The greek community is small and word gets out about prospective members. Is this right? No, but it does happen.
Another reason to watch what you say and do is that you never know who knows whom. For instance, I know a young lady who wants to go Delta and since I know of some I offered to introduce her to them in a casual way. I feel that she would be a good member in my org, and since Delta is what she wants, I felt that maybe she had a chance with them. In the end due to personal issues she has not joined Delta, but I know she is trying and I encourage her. The flip side to this is that in the past I've had other greeks point out ladies to me who might be interested in SGR and since I respected that particular greek, I gave that person a chance.
And finally, my advice to ANY pnm of NPHC/NPC/IFC/MCGLO/NAFLO is to not come on GC and post your intentions!!! Especially if you include info like you did with your e-mail adress. I just think it is bad karma!!!

Soror Sigmadiva,
Say that, say that!!! Your entire post was on-point, but nothing hit the nail on the head like this quote.
Dear Aspirants (of any org),
The Greek world (ESPECIALLY THE NPHC WORLD) is very very small. You never know whose sister, cousin, best friend, or coworker is in the chapter you are trying to join, and the internet does not provide the anonymity that some think it does.
The best way to learn about an organization is through research and interaction with members and programs. The internet can be useful, too, but only when TACT and DISCRETION govern the tone of communication.

No problem. I don't think Sigmadiva meant that your name has anything to do with your interest. It's not like you are using a name indicative of a group (that I know of). I think she was just saying that since you have publicly disclosed your email address, you might want to be careful in your online pursuit of your org of interest.

This is EXACTLY what I meant.
BTW, I *think* Theta Nu Xi (or another MCGLO) uses with the butterfly as one of their symbols. I could be wrong.

Yes our symbol is the butterfly. My only concern with her user name is that it's FSUBUTTERFLY ( This leads me to ASSume that she attends Florida State University.) We do have a chapter at FSU. Now unless she attends Ferris State University or someplace else that is called FSU, I'd feel more comfortable if she changed it.
Thank you to the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho for being on top of things
ONE love and mine,
tnxbutterfly

Hey Ladies:
While it is not the norm for these types of events to happen I do think that waaaaaay back in the day things that we would deem abnormal may have occurred.
I say this because my mom and my 4 aunts (having pledged in the early 50's...sorry for the old heads for saying waaaaaaay), all of which are DST, except one who is a Zeta stated that at their college, an HBCU, the women in the sorority showed interest in "certain" women, versus you showing interest in them. I am sure that there was a mixture of both...women who were invited to events and "courted" (for lack of a better word) and those who had to jock to get on line. Anywho, my mother said that during these times, it wasn't abnormal to be "courted" by perhaps two orgs., as well as to accept invitation (not formal invitation but perhaps to attend events and things) from more than one. Obviously, eventually the "courtee" made the decision as to which one was the best fit based on service, campus programming, etc. and made this known either by foregoing further invitations by the org. not chosen or cranking up the obvious interest in the org. chosen. This didn't happen all the time but if a sistah was hella tight, 4.0 G.P.A., service, all around BOMB, then it wasn't unheard of.
This is the closest I have seen the original question even be seemingly applicable besides the "I transferred to XYZ school from ABC" issue.
I also agree that making the databses of the four BGLO sororities is the only remedy against the B.S.
Just my $19.13...

I agree w/ Delta Brat that we need to find a way to communicate amongst the D9 to avoid people who are a few cards short of a full emotional deck trying to take advantage of us.
I think young ladies should be encouraged to look at the different orgs at their campus, however, there is a point of no return. Once you do interviews, etc, you have made your choice, live w/ it.

WHY WOULD ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WANT TO JOIN TWO ORGANIZATIONS ? THERE WAS A TIME WHEN A PERSON WENT THROUGH SO MUCH WHILE PLEDGING THAT IT WOULD BE INCONCEIVABLE FOR A PERSON TO WANT TO PLEDGE AGAIN.EVEN WITH INTAKE YOU WOULD STILL HAVE TO BE A SICK PERSON TO WANT TO JOINING ANOTHER ORGANIZATION. WE HAVE ALL HEARD THESE URBAN MYTHS ABOUT PEOPLE JOIN TWO ORGANIZATIONS,BUT NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BE TRUE.
AS FAR AS ATTENDING SEVERAL INFORMATIONALS, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A PERSON ATTENDING ALL OF THEM, AND THEN MAKING UP THEIR MIND WHICH ONE THEY WANT TO BE A PART OF. DIDN'T WE ALL APPLY TO SEVERAL SCHOOLS AND THEN ACCEPTED ONE.THERE IS NOTHING THAT SAYS ONCE YOU ATTEND ONE YOU CAN'T ATTEND ANOTHER. I PERSONALLY KNOW SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO PLEDGED ONE ORGANIZATION AND QUIT,ONLY TO PLEDGE ANOTHER ONE THE SAME SEMESTER AND MAKE IT. A PERSON HAS THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THEIR MIND ANYTIME DURING THE PROCESS AND THIS DOES NOT ELIMINATE THEM FROM JOINING ANOTHER .
FINALLY IF A PERSON DOES SUCCEED IN JOINING TWO ORGANIZATIONS, ( AND IT IS POSSIBLE )I FEEL THEY SHOULD EXPELLED FROM BOTH IF THEY ARE FOUND OUT.

Quick Question
I have a lot of friends that are in greek organizations and I have heard some stories. What do you think about someone being accepted for intake of an organization and then dropping(their own decision). Would you ban that person from ever wanting to come back, or would you look over that if they still showed interest?
As for joining 2 organizations at the same time, I personally feel that it is crazy. How can you show love for one and then turn around and do the same for another? Isn't something that is in your heart? I don't think that you can split up that love b/t two organizations. I personally know a girl who pledged a black greek organization, and I was really really really really(you get the point) close. After a split of interest, I found out that she was interested in pledging a multi cultural organization. People were heated when they saw her at the probate. I mean, is it right to do something like that, or to lead people in different directions?
Just throwing things out there

Not true, I knew of at least 3 confirmed cases of folks pledging one thing then joining another later. Sad and almost unbelievable but true.
