Our girl was very, very nervous on Saturday morning, waiting to pick up her invitations. She loved Delta Queen and P&G, and could see herself at either.
She did not see herself at Oktoberfest or Rookwood Pottery. She wondered what to do if she got her bottom two, and worried that she would not have any good options. Should she go if she didn't get either one of her top two? Would she have any invites at all?
We told her to go to the parties, no matter what, that minds were often changed at Pref, and that she had nothing to lose by going. She didn't need to decide anything, and besides, invitations hadn't been distributed yet...You forget how stressful this is for an 18 year old, and how sophisticated they seem on the outside, but how they still need a lot of support.
We also told her that if she got her favorites, now was the time to let the chapters know how she felt. No need to play coy or hard to get. No stalker or needy behavior, but let them know you have loved them from the start.
She went off to meet with her Pi Chi, and had time for a quick text to her mom....
Top 2 for Pref!
Off to Delta Queen and Procter and Gamble.
She had a great time, loved both houses, and could see herself happily accepting a bid at either.
She ultimately went with her heart, and put down her true home.
Bid Day Sunday,
Standing in the horseshoe, facing inward, the Pi Chi's put a wrapped Tshirt in everyone's hands. When everyone had a t shirt, she opened hers to find her colors.
She made a quick phone call to her mom, and in the background, my friend could hear screams and squeals, and our girl told her mom that they are now sisters in Delta Queen...
Alpha Chi Omega.
Sometimes, PNM's go into recruitment with a completely open mind, and fall in love with their legacy house, and sometimes that house loves them right back. We told her that whatever group she joined, we would love them too, but her mom is beyond thrilled to be able to get her beautiful lyre pin out and polish it up for an upcoming initiation.
Sometimes, PNM's go into recruitment to meet new friends and find a home far away from home, and sometimes they get that and more. She had a close friend from K-4th grade who moved far away. They stayed in touch for a while, but things being what they are, eventually lost touch.
Guess who is a new pledge sister?
Congrats to all of the PNMs at SC, and cheers to the moms, grandmas, rec writers and godmothers who supported them along the way.

Yay for god daughter! She will have a great time at SC. Just tell her to make sure to wear a sundress to the football games, if she is not from the south!

southbymidwest, LOL, yes, there's really a different approach to football games, isn't it? We were just talking about that today. Midwest, it's more about the spirit wear and in the south, it's definitely a dress-up event. Her mom is already on the hunt for appropriate football wear. Thanks for the heads up.

Black or garnet dresses (or black and garnet, if you can find it!) and Rainbow flip-flips are very popular!
Can't wait for football to start! Go Gamecocks!

It is being reported that Kappa took 86, but I haven't heard about anyone else. Anyone know what quota was?

They all made at least quota of 84. Daughter said Kappa had 87. Irishpipes has it at 86. Either way . . . daughter's very happy (so I'm happy, too)!

The Alpha Chi Omega pledge class is 91 at SC.
The size of these SEC chapters and their pledge classes is huge. Most girls won't get the chance to live in at SC, will they?
And thanks for the heads up on black and garnet... will have to be on the lookout for something in that color combo.

I'm not sure how many the other houses hold, but Kappa has room for 51. Mine loves living there -- the convenience to Strom, they're first stop on the morning shuttle, the stadium for games, The Vista, just everything and, obviously, the camraderie!
Have you visited the Greek Village -- it's beautiful. Here's the link to look at all the houses http://www.sa.sc.edu/greeklife/sorhouses.htm
Hope your God Daughter gets to live in the AXO house -- it's really the frosting on the cake!

I know she hopes to live in. I think their house sleeps about 10 or so fewer than the Kappa house... she thought it slept about 40, so it's a little smaller physically, at least in the bedrooms.
Thanks for the link to the houses... gorgeous, aren't they? Does anyone know if Phi Mu has plans to build?

It's a whole u-shaped village (to relicate the layout of the original buildings of the university which are laid out in a horseshoe).
Fraternity houses, too http://www.sa.sc.edu/greeklife/frathouses.htm
I'm not sure about when Phi Mu might be able to build because there aren't any lots left. Maybe Greek Village II . . . someday?
