We're expected to get up to another 6-8" tomorrow and Wednesday. On top of the 18-20" we already have. Believe it or not, my kids only had a two-hour school delay this morning!

I'm so glad you said this, because it's a really big pet peeve of mine when people say that we "freak out" or "whine" about big snows when we get it. One of my friends had a facebook status up about how it was stupid that we were making such a big deal about this blizzard because he lives in Iowa. ARRRGG! The point is WE DON'T LIVE IN IOWA! It's a big deal because we aren't prepared for it. A lot of people in this area (at least my neighbors) don't even own snow shovels! We don't have snow tires or chains, and our cities don't put a lot of money into snow preparedness and clean-up. Obviously it's going to be a bigger deal here than it would be in the Midwest! End rant.

Yes! I have a friend, eh scratch that - friendly acquaintance from Buffalo who keeps complaining about people freaking out and school being canceled, whine, whine, whine... She refuses to acknowledge that snow like this, here is a big deal. A friend on facebook told me that this is the most snow we've ever had since 1870 when they started recording such things!

Here's a picture of George in the snow for you guys. And yes, school is canceled again today with another 10ish inches expected tonight so I won't be surprised if I'm not back until Monday... I actually want to go back to class!

I'm originally from Buffalo and while the amount that you guys got wouldn't be such a big deal in Buffalo, it would still cause problems, and at least the kids would probably get a couple of snow days. Don't let that bia ruin your thoughts of Buffalonians - we wouldn't wish our winters on anyone!

I've been very concerned about my friends who live in the DC area, but I called them all yesterday and they all assured me that they were fine and having fun with the kegs they were lucky enough to get prior to the storm. Well, one was pissed because everyone's getting days off but they were his original days off so he hasn't missed any work yet, but on the whole they're warm and happy - and I'm glad to hear it.

I'm in Philly, too, and I don't know where we're going to put the new snow. My little street is already completely blocked at one end.

I walked up to the shopping mini-plaza because my car is trapped in my garage(the boro hasn't plowed our little hill/alley). I have frappacinos, pringles, oreos and beer. So I'm fine.

Hopefully you're not in Manayunk or Roxborough - those hills are the worst!

Now I'm in a tizzy that our (flat) roof is going to collapse and trying to figure out how one gets up to the roof of a three-story rowhouse to shovel without breaking one's neck (and wondering if just maybe one's landlord should be taking care of this, hmph).

Fortunately, I did make it out to the local super-big-box-mart for groceries today. Now that I have 2 cases of Diet Coke on hand it's inevitable that either we'll get nothing (calling from 8-12" more here by Wednesday) OR we'll get so much that I'll run out again before we've dug back out.

I called my landlord to tell him that the roof is leaking -- he lost power Saturday and it still isn't back on, PLUS his wife went into labor yesterday morning, so they have a day-old infant. Holy crap. I was like, "Uhhhh...the leak can probably wait..."
