It can be for any length of time, but in my experience it is always for a definite period of time, not just "don't come back until we say you can." And the bolded is key. The school is saying that it wasn't disciplinary; they seem to be saying it was (mental) health/safety related rather than disciplinary.
If it wasn't disciplinary, it wasn't a suspension.

Maybe dad had him do another one to show what it looked like.
The flip side is if this
is "the drawing in question," then it makes sense that. seeing the name "Jalen" on the cross, the teacher might ask who it is being crucified and be concerned. What might not make as much sense is dad's claim that the kid said it was Jesus at first.
