Her first choice at the moment is Columbia. She would also consider Brown and Cornell and I'm working on talking her into applying to Barnard because their acceptance rate is one of the highest of the Ivy's. She is balking at the "all girls school" concept but it's my understanding that Columbia and Barnard are pretty much one school, sharing sororities, courses available, etc. She would love to go to school in New York City. She initially turned her nose down at Michigan but she has spent a little time in Ann Arbor and she loves the atmosphere there. We were in a deli downtown and she saw posters on the wall for poetry readings and saw students studying there with their laptops and was enamored with the whole atmosphere. She kept saying "This is so cool, this is SO COOL". I drove her past the Alpha Beta house and she said "WOW!". She now has decided that Michigan will be her "safety" school. I have many reasons for preferring Michigan, but if she makes it into an Ivy, I'll do whatever I can to make that happen for her. Michigan is only a 45 minute drive. She would probably get a scholarship there if she continues academically as she has been. She'd have a chance to work on The Michigan Daily which would be a good start to the journalism career she is aspiring toward. And, I do think she'd love it in Ann Arbor. She's got a very creative/artsy streak that is well suited to the whole Ann Arbor environment. Of course being an Alpha Gam would be great too, but I know that may not happen and it's not my main reason for wanting her to go there

She is a kid who is going to thrive in the college/academia atmosphere no matter where she goes.
