I was born in Texas, but my parents moved when I was three. I want to go back and see where I was born! Anyway, I have a lot of that Native Texan love in my heart

A Texas Blessing

Note: If you are not a resident of TEXAS or never have lived in the hot, humid Southwest, you may not understand the weight of this blessing!
Bless this house, oh Lord, we cry.
Please keep it cool in mid-July.
Bless the walls where termites dine,
While ants and roaches march in time.
Bless our yard where spiders pass
Fire ant castles in the grass.
Bless the garage, a home to please
Carpenter beetles, ticks and fleas.
Bless the love bugs, two by two,
The gnats and mosquitoes that feed on you.
Millions of creatures that fly or crawl,
in TEXAS, Lord, you've put them all!!
But this is home, and here we'll stay,
So thank you Lord, for insect spray.

HOLD IT.............there's more....................
__________________________________________________ __
YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN TEXAS IN JULY WHEN. . . .

The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.
The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
You can make sun tea instantly.
You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron!
The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.
Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.
The cows are giving evaporated milk. Ah, what a place to call home.
God Bless Our State of TEXAS

I'm really surprised that aTm is ahead of UT in those categories. Maybe its because there's not a whole lot to do there in College STation.

I think it's more because Aggies feel a stonger tie to their school than some other places do.

And I'll echo that WHOOP for A&M and Kyle Field!!!

I don't know...our Baylor women's basketball team owns all, hands down, and my most memorable sports moment of the year was watching the Aggies get beat by us in football with that niiiice two-pointer at the end. (If all else fails in the random acts of school rivalry, we've got the "we were here first" defense...)

Call me a masochist, but I can't wait for August. Enough of this wimpy eighty-something Seattle stuff...I kinda miss being able to roll out of bed and stick to stuff in the summer, LOL, and I kind of chuckle when some dude called 87 "hotter than hell" this afternoon. Question being: what the hell? That kind of weather's pretty pleasant! Anyway, regardless of the weather, I can't wait to get back to a place where folks are nice and it's not Seattle (no offense to everyone else who's here at the moment--once a Texan, always a Texan, and I belong down there).

Artist/Band: Strait George
Lyrics for Song: Texas
Lyrics for Album: Somewhere Down in Texas

There wouldn't be no alamo
No cowboys in the superbowl
No lonesome dove, No yellow rose

I wouldn't be a willy fan
Nobody would swim the Rio Grand
I wouldn't be an American
If it weren't for Texas

Fort Worth would never cross my mind
There'd be no Austin City Limit sign
No Lonestar Of Etiquan
if it wasnt for texas

I'd never gone to tennesee to sing my songs and chase my dreams,
Only heaven knows where'd i'd be. If it wasn't for texas.

Fort Worth would never cross my mind
There'd be no Austin City Limit sign
No Lonestar Of Etiquan
If it wasn't for Texas

it made me the man i am,
thank god for my old stomping ground
I wouldnt be standing right here right now
If it wasn't for texas, if it wasnt for Texas.

Cant believe no one has posted this yet. Its on the radio about every 7 minutes.

Artist: Bowling for Soup Lyrics
Song: Ohio (Come Back To Texas) Lyrics

She said she needed a break
A little time to think
But then she went to Cleveland
With some guy named Leland
That she met at the bank.
Theres nothing wrong with Ohio
Except the snow and the rain.
I really like Drew Carey
And i'd love to see
The Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

So when youre done
Doing whatever
And when you're through
Doing whoever
0You know Denton county
Will be right here waiting for you.

Come back to Texas
It's just not the same
Since you went away
Before you lose your accent
And forget all about
The Lonestar state
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And i've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sucks
North of here anyway.

I think I made a mistake
It's not that easy to take
She went to make a deposit
Then she cleaned out her closet
Guess i'll sit here and wait
For her to come back home
(I wish she'd come back)
It shouldnt take very long
(So long, so long)
I bet she misses the sunrise
and Mrs. Baird's fruit pies
(but I could be wrong)

So when youre done
Doing whatever
And when you're through
Doing whoever
You know Denton county
Will be right here waiting for you.

Come back to Texas
It's just not the same
Since you went away
I bet you missed your exit
And drove right on through the Lonestar state
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And i've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sucks north of here anyway

Troy Aikmen wants you back
Willie Nelson wants you back
NASA wants you back
And the Bush twins want you back
And Pantera wants you back
And Bluebell wants you back

I got a premonition
I'm taking a petition
And the whole states gonna sign

<group of people sing to a single guitar>
Come back to Texas
It's just not the same
Since you went away
Before you lose your accent
And forget all about
The Lonestar state
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And i've got every slow dance saved
</end group singing>

I sent that song to a friend of mine who goes to school (went actually- he graduated) in New York but is from Houston. Every time I heard it I thought of him and how he needed to come back to Texas. He liked it.

CMT's doing a poll of favorite city songs...it would be a travesty if this one didn't win. Go here and click "take poll." Street's of Bakersfield is currently winning...
