Rush 2015
The Football schedule for the 2015 season has been announced. The first open date for Ole Miss is November 14. Please tell me they are considering moving rush back to before school instead of waiting until November 14.

I'm going to guess either the weekend of the Alabama game or the Florida game since those are earlier in the semester and both are away games.

Does Katy Perry have any connection to Ole Miss? Usually the guest prognosticator does.

I think her manager or personal assistant is an Ole Miss graduate.

She is from Santa Barbara CA. And AFAIK no college, ever. One of our UA Thetas was her next door neighbor growing up, and they are still close.

^^^ sweet! Nicely alphabetized, by last name, right? Ha! (you know I'm being silly)
Waiting for Theta's ad - did I miss it? Does every chapter there publish an ad or is it more of an optional thing? Wish that UofA did it. Oh that's A for ARIZONA for those who don't know. Currently 5-0 on the season, trounced Oregon Ducks last night. YES!

ADPi New Members
ADPi's new members are also listed in this issue
AZTheta, the ad welcoming new members is optional and I imagine, pretty costly. You have not missed the Theta ad. I'll post it if and when

Before enrollment increased by 50% deferred was maybe not as onerous as it has become. So many more girls = more parties = long, long nights, especially for the actives. Exhaustion, lack of study time. So what if people disenroll if they don't get what they think they should? They can leave after deferred enrollment too, and do.

It makes a very big difference to the University. Recruitment is purposefully scheduled after the date at which the student can withdraw and receive a refund on tuition.
Some mothers might get all hysterical when their little Polly Perfect doesn't get that Top Tier bid that they think they are entitled to. On the other hand, most of those mothers are not willling to forfeit several thousand dollars in non-refundable tuition.
And as one of the last SEC recruitments, transferring after a disappointing rush to get another bite at the apple means not only losing all that tuition, but also that Polly won't be able to rush until Spring semester.
I am not arguing FOR deferred rush. Just telling you some of the reasons it is what it is and why it is unlikely to change.

Maybe her Gamma Chi has better things to do than meet with PNM's who skip the meetings?

Since it is early in the FR process, she might be OK if she has a sympathetic GC and is appropriately contrite; the chapters will probably never know it happened. However, the fact that the "special trip" was "planned since November" tends to indicate that it wasn't either an emergency or a event of such importance, e.g. sister's wedding, that would merit much consideration. It sounds more like it was simply something she wanted to do more than meet with her Gamma Chi and her recruitment group.
This is FR at Ole Miss. Everyone involved, including the Greek Life Office, chapters, the alums, the GCs (I can tell you my DD takes her GC responsibilities very seriously), and the advisors, takes it seriously. When the chapters are looking to make recruitment decisions, especially early in the process, they make them based on the easy criteria: grades, recs (or lack thereof), reputation, and...who is taking the honor of GLO membership as seriously as tradition here dictates.
I give this warning more to PNMs generally than as a direct response to HottyToddy1 or her DD. Don't do anything during this period to project the image that GLO membership is just one of many things you are sampling at Ole Miss. At least for the next month, it needs to be (and be seen to be) your top priority and a privilege to be considered.

Since this was a visit planned long in advance and not an emergency, I hope that she discussed this with her GC or Greek office in ADVANCE of missing this important meeting. In this case, it really was better to ask for permission, not forgiveness.

Recruitment registration is still open until the 29th. The last informational meeting took place on Saturday. Classes started today. I don't think any meetings with gamma chis have been mandatory thus far. There are still girls who have yet to register!
Mom. Have your daughter call the Greek like office to find out who her gamma chi is and have her email her. Missing a meeting before classes even start and students are still moving in shouldn't be that big of a deal!
