Anecdotal, but a friend of mine gained almost 15 pounds within 2 months of starting on the patch. She changed absolutely nothing else, and within 2 months of getting off the patch, she lost all the weight without any significant lifestyle changes
I'm on seasonique and I am very pleased

HUZZAH! I found a list of birth control pills that are free for my plan (updated in 2013 so I should be good). I'm straight up gonna give this to my Dr. and ask to write a Rx to whatever is similar, lol.
DAMN Aetna made that effing difficult.
Thanks for the input anyways lol

One of my daughters used the patch when it came out as she did not tolerate the pill well at all. Found it to be a real hassle-patch didn't always adhere well. A little while after she started on it, reports came out that basically, the amount of hormones entering your system might be a bit higher than they thought, so her GYN pulled her off it and put her on Nuvaring. She has been on it ever since, with a minimum of issues.

Just as an anecdote, I know two people that used the patch correctly and still got pregnant.
Since my mom switched insurance to the state plan (former state employee), they don't cover my BC since I am taking it for non-medical reasons
I already take the generic, so I will be getting my rx at Target for 4.00 a month.

So an update...
Since there's no generic for Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, I switched to the generic of regular Ortho Tri Cyclen, TriNessa. The difference is that it has a higher dose of estrogen than the Lo.
We'll see how this goes! I can't imagine having too much trouble making the switch.
Oh and it was FREE! Yahoo!!

Switch. There are about a million different kinds of birth control pills out there, and one probably works well with your body. If you have side effects that bother you a lot, it's time to switch drugs.
I think nausea is caused by the hormones in the pill, so if you were OK with Yasmin you'll probably be OK on whatever your doc switches you to.
Talk to your doc - seriously, it's no big deal. I went through 9 pill types before I found one that didn't make my boobs sore, my cramps worse, or my moods more swingy.
AND BE SURE TO ASK IF THEY HAVE SAMPLES. Most OB/GYN offices have them and I don't know about you, but my birth control pills are EXPENSIVE. Getting a pack for free makes me feel like I beat the system.

Stopped taking the pill about 2 weeks ago. I've been on it for a number of years. I seem to be shedding hair like crazy, much moreso than usual. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Hmmm.. it has been 3 years since I went off and I honestly can't remember. However, I have had 2 kids in that time and in both instances my hair really thickened up during pregnancy and then fell out like crazy after birth. (this is pretty normal with pregnancy i believe). Anyway...similar type hormone changes at work?

Year late response, I know, but just throwing my experience out there for other future readers.
I went off the pill for a bit. The only thing that really happened was I was really nauseous for a bit. The nausea started about a month after going off of it and lasted on and off for a few weeks. It got pretty bad, although I never threw up or anything. Just a word of warning!
Also, I MAY have lost 2-3 pounds but that may have been coincidence.

^^^I've been taking yasmin for about four years and haven't had any problems or cramping beyond light, normal cramping. I've never tried another pill other than the generic of yasmin.

Same with me for Yasmin. Well, Yasmin, then Ocella, and now Zarah. Same shit, different pill. My week off, I get headaches, but annoying sinus headaches. The day I'm going to start, I get a horrendous cramp that last's not even a minute and then goes away. BUT, I have endometriosis. My doc said to stay on the pill because that'll alleviate the pain from it, and it actually helps to shrink the floating tissue that causes endo cramps. He also knows that I'm a smoker and hasn't mentioned much about that.
I did gain 5lbs every time BCBS switched me from original to generic to new generic.

Bumpity.
Are there any specific brands that are lower dosage?
I'm looking at it as a way to get my cycle regulated. My periods are close together and not regular and that would be fine, but I get crazy bad PMS, and don't realize that's why I'm tearing off people's heads until the period's actually here.

I've only been on "ultra-low" formulas. Currently I'm on Mircette, which was my very first pill and I've gone back to it. It only has two placebo days, and the last 5 days have even less estrogen than the first 21. Also been on Alesse and Loestrin.

The Nuvaring is low dose and I've found it to be the best thing that ever happened to me, birth control wise. I don't have to remember much other than insert, remove three weeks later, wait a week, insert new ring. I have used it continuously while in the field, or to reschedule if I know I'm going to be traveling, an event, or something high stress. I've been a dedicated user for almost four years.
One side effect has been a delayed period, like a week and sometimes I barely have a period since I put in the new ring before I have it. Putting it in is no problem, sometimes removal takes a little finesse. TMI but no matter which tampons I've used I always am aware of their presence, not so with the Nuvaring.

The thought of insertion (not to mention removal) squicks me out in the extreme.
On another note, the guy I thought was completely blowing me off made contact tonight...so if you ever have that problem, try bumping this thread.
