Yep I finally went for the perm! I got a spiral perm on large rods in early June and I love it!!! Like I said before, my hair is naturally wavy so I was always right there in the frizzy middle between straight and curly. Now I have pretty, loose spirals that I can straighten if I want to go for a different look (but it takes about 45 minutes). Actually, I even think my hair is in better condition since the perm because I don't use much heat to style it anymore (just a little bit of drying with a diffuser). I did buy new products after I went curly but they were all pretty cheap. I got the green Dep gel, Salon Selectives Loosely Defined (this is the best stuff in the world!!!) and Suave Shine gel. Oh and there is a great website with a message board about curly hair I go to all the time - its naturallycurly.com
Good Luck with your Hair!!!
Hi Turtlegirl!!!! GUess what, I'm going in for a perm today! Hopefully I'll like it , I want to get loose waves (is that a body perm?). I have a feeling that my hair will be even more dammaged after the perm, since I usually don't blowdry my hair anyways! See, I color all the time, AND I swim! Yikes, hopefully I won't ruin my hair!

Thanks for all your advice!!!! I'll keep you posted on how it goes - hopefully I'll have good news to report back to you in the next few days!!! Wish me luck!

I have curly hair too, and it's pretty thick. I wash my hair every other day and straighten it pretty much every time I wash it with a blowdryer and iron. I had really pretty, straight hair when I was younger but around age 12-13 it frizzed and curled and generally became a mess.

I really don't know how to leave it curly so I just straighten it! But I am absolutely a pro at straightening. I've gotten it chemically straightened by a Korean stylist who was recommended by my piano teacher/good friend and it's maybe the best thing I ever did for my hair. The night before I was terrified that it would irreversibly damage my hair or that I'd go bald (in high school you hear all sorts of these things) but oh my god...I got it done and it was so soft and so miraculously straight! It lasted for three glorious months and I'm getting ready to schedule another appointment for a couple weeks before school starts Anyways just thought I'd share a hair success story.

Ahhh!!!!

So I finally got a soft perm, and while it looks really nice, my hair is as dry as STRAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!! My stylist kept on commenting on how my hair was so dry, due to being overprocessed (I swim, plus I've dyed my hair countless times!!! ), so she used a really gentle perm.

Still, my hair feels like straw! What should i do?! Does anyone have any creams/leave-in conditioners that they can recommend to me??? I bought Sebastian Potion number 9 from a beauty employee's suggestion (that is a very popular product), but even that isn't working for me!!!!

I think the stronger the product, the better - my hair feels like it's gonna break soon!

Thank you for any help that you can give to me - I will appreciate it so much!!!!

I forgot to mention that my hair isn't as curly as yesterday (when I permed it), b/c it is very dry! The stylist told me that if it seems that my curls have sorta disappeared, it is b/c my hair is very dry. She said wetting the hair with water would help the curls spring back...but I'm wondering if products would get rid of the dryness?

HELP please! Thanks!!!

Whenever my hair is extra-dry, I condition it with plain old olive oil. Just wet your hair and coat it with olive oil, let it sit for like 20 minutes, then wash and condition as usual. Also, since your hair is curly now (congrats ), try not to wash it everyday ( thats hard if you swim) just wet it and condition it but don't shampoo. That helps a lot with the dryness. Oh and I used to leave a little conditioner (regular not leave-in) in my hair but I find that if I use my SS Loosely Defined on top of conditioner, its too much and my hair gets all dull and waxy-feeling. Well thats it for my dryness tipsZ Good Luck!
