I should also mention that Psi has been used more than once, so you will sometimes see the Psi-II designation for when the Psi name was used again (i.e. recycled), but at a different campus.

Changed.
I think once we get a little ways into this, we can paste a few posts together (or, I can edit the OP) to make the info more accessible. Or, we could start a new thread with just the actual list and no chit-chat.

Upsilon Lambda - wow!!! ZTA just chartered Kappa Omega! How many chapters are active right now though? Just curious
And I'm with Nittany, I'm interested but I don't think I'll be able to contribue much here. I'll definitely keep checking in though!

FYI, Chi Omega names their chapters "backwards" so it's really like the Lambda Upsilon chapter for other orgs. Still, Chi Omega has a lot of chapters!

I can help by giving all the AOII chapters in order of charter if anyone needs it. PM me if you can't find a chapter for us. Hint...we have no Mu chapter.

Nut, can I ask why Chi Omega does it backwards.... or is that ritual? Just curious!

No real secret other than that was the way the founders chose to do it!
Like I said, it's confusing to many. The only kinda cool thing is you can get a pretty good idea of the age of the chapter looking at the second letter -- like the Psi Alpha, Chi Alpha, etc. -- The "Alphas" were right after the single letter chapters. Then next comes Psi Beta, Chi Beta, etc. (The "Betas" were installed in the 1920s mainly.)

And if Pi Phi uses states in their lettering system, do they not wear chapter guards? Or just single letter guards and say they're from whatever state?

Right - the Pi Phi pin guard is traditionally the crest, done in gold filligree -a diamond shaped lozenge with a bird (Help! I forgot what kind, I believe that it is either the eagle or a phoenix, now I have to look this up) with arrows in one talon and wings stretched upward. Officer dangles may be added, but I have never seen a Pi Phi pin with a letter pin guard unless it was a very old one (pre-1930's). Excellent question - I have often thought that our pin was unique for this very reason.

Mine is a Gamma for my Pi Phi chapter, Alabama Gamma. Most of us had Gammas instead of the guard!

Then I was wrong & different chapters do it different ways. Thanks for the info, I always thought that every chapter used the crest. Carnation, do you know if the bird on the crest is a phoenix or an eagle?

I think an eagle. If it were a phoenix, I bet that it would have been widely publicized and they would have made it part of the ritual--it's so symbolic!
