It's fun being able to go with your friends without having to "check" with anybody else first. But be prepared when your friends take forever to get back to you because THEY have men to check with and you just have to wait till they all come to a concensus....oh, and when they show you pictures they just took and you don't have any ammo to come back with. If you put on the tough armor, you'll get used to that. In the meantime, flirt with as many guys as you please and have fun knowing there's no guilt! Just float from one to another and pick the one you like the best (but it's even more fun if you don't pick one at all, just let the cycle continue  ).

So what do you want to do tonight (this weekend, etc,)?
Anything YOU want to do!!!! That sounds so simple and silly, but I think it is the best part of being single.
You said the breakup was a relief, so now its safe to say you don't have to put up with crap anymore.  You can take time for yourself to get to know what you want in the future, for yourself and relationships. Take the time and energy that you spent with your ex and learn something new (take up a hobby that you've always wanted to do) or get back to doing something that you previously enjoyed.
Take time to let yourself heal. Do whatever it is you need to do to heal. Don't throw yourself into your work, or ignore your feelings. It will only come back to you later.

Advice:
Stay busy. (Pretty self-explanatory)
Get to know the you you are now. (We spend so much time focused on 'we' we forget the 'me' part. Get to know you!!)
Honestly, I've had more fabulous dinner dates and string-free outings than I could count on both hands and feet! The nights I thought I would be 'lonely' I hung out with my girls Samantha, Carrie, Char and Miranda ...baked some cookies, drank some wine. 
Oh, and when you do have have a bf who has a significant other and she wants to double - just think of all the choices you have to choose from!! She just has that same ol' guy, you on the other hand could bring the artist..the cutie from the coffee shop...the guy that walks his dog every morning at 7...catch my drift?

I have such a hard time with that b/c 3 years have left me with a lot of ___ & I stories, so I make a lot of references to him.

ohhhhh you too!!! I had to revert to "me and a friend" when I started telling those stories. Thankfully I can say that with all wholeheartedness NOW....for about 6-8 months I only referred to him as "that boy"
I lost a lot of good friend that were mutual who felt polarized by the situation so they just kinda stepped away I guess.
But as for trite advice....."there are thousands of women everyday who get excited over nothing and them marry him" welp that won't be you!

*You can go to the martini lounge with your girls, come home at 1:00 AM, and not have a million "Where have you been??" voicemails waiting for you when you get there.
*You can sit back and just listen while your friends tell you about the pointless arguments they had with their bfs/hubbies/fiances about trivial things like where to go for dinner or the correct way to load the dishwasher (and thank God it's not you).

Well, if you have the urge to sleep around everywhere, do it while single. Obviously it's not the most ethical thing to do while in a relationship.

Oh I have no urge to sleep around at all. No it is not the most ethical thing to do, but it happens. I wouldn't promote it, but that's just me. Plus, if one is not married they are single, but I know what you mean in the context of this thread.
