we once had an advisor that went to auburn. their chapter closed down before it was recolinized just recently. i know they used to have a house. as for UT i am curious as to why all the sororites wouldn't get houses? aren't they all really strong there?

My school doesn't even have greek dorms. With 30% of the students greek, the school feels greek housing would pull too many of the "joiners" or "leaders" out of the dorms. The school would rather have its students mix more. Additionally, there are $$ and land-use issues that the school probably does not want to deal with.

Ah yes, there are many instances like this especially in the Eastern schools.
Land is at a premium and costs are prohibative.
Being from the plains states, most Campi have houses except the private schools who also want to either prototect the virtues and their dorm space.

Wish I were more familiar with the area -- how about it? Does this sound like a good location?

This proposed location looks like it's a bit of a hike from the academic buildings. Unless I'm totally off base, this location is almost not even on campus. There is a good amount of land there, though. I would attach a map, but it would wonk the whole thread.

Map:
At the top right of the map is Cumberland Ave, which leads to campus, so you can see that it's not that close. The University is saying that they'll direct KAT busses out there to pick up the students, though.

And it looks like there's room for expansion for 2 houses, next to DG and next to ZTA. Is that accurate? I haven't been there so I don't know the space in real life.

I wonder why this is just now being posted? AOII's house is almost done and should be ready for recruitment this fall. I think the groups are staggered a bit and some won't be ready until spring or next fall, but some are done/almost done.

I thought perhaps it had already been posted, but couldn't find it anywhere.

I just read an article that 6 of the groups have begun move in and will be hosting recruitment in their houses. The remaining chapters will be hosting recruitment in the panhellenic building with bus service provided between the two locations. I'll rummage around and see if I can find it for posting.
This is not the article that I read earlier, but it is directly from the university. It states that seven houses will be opening this semester. I'll keep looking.

I heard that the plan with the buses will not be decided until August 1.

Actually, the first article that I posted from UT's website states that transportation will be going between the two locations.
"Sorority fall recruitment is set for August 19—26 at the Panhellenic Building on Cumberland Avenue and at the completed properties within Sorority Village, with transportation provided between the two locations."
I assume it will be buses.
My personal opinion is that they should hold recruitment one last time in the Panhellenic building, at least until almost all 13 sororities are in their houses. That being said, three of the strongest recruiting chapters will not have their houses available, and I don't think that will impact those chapters poorly at all.
