Former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Thursday his prewar speech to the United Nations accusing Iraq of harboring weapons of mass destruction was a "blot" on his record.

"I'm the one who presented it to the world, and (it) will always be a part of my record. It was painful. It is painful now," Powell said in an interview with Barbara Walters on ABC-News.

The presentation by the soldier-diplomat to the world body in February 2003 lent considerable credibility to President Bush's case against Iraq and for going to war to remove President Saddam Hussein.

In the speech, Powell said he had relied on information he received at Central Intelligence Agency briefings. He said Thursday that then-director George Tenet "believed what he was giving to me was accurate."

But, Powell said, "the intelligence system did not work well."

"There were some people in the intelligence community who knew at the time that some of those sources were not good, and shouldn't be relied upon, and they didn't speak up," Powell said.

"That devastated me," he said.

Powell in the TV interview also disputed the Bush administration's linking of Saddam's regime with terrorists.

He said he had never seen a connection between Baghdad and the 9-11 attacks on New York and Washington in 2001. "I can't think otherwise, because I'd never seen evidence to suggest there was one," he said.

Still, Powell said that while he has always been a "reluctant warrior" he supported Bush on going to war the month after his U.N. speech. "When the president decided that it was not tolerable for this regime to remain in violation of all those U.N. resolutions I am right there with him with the use of force," Powell said.

I knew this fool didn't believe what he was saying at the U.N. I lost sooo much faith in him after that speech. Oh well....when you lie down with the dogs, you get up with...........

I was watching Dr. Phil yesterday and Master P was on there. He says C-Murder is still missing....

OH ISHT.

From what I have been told/reading, a lot of prisoners were able to "leave" due to the flooding.

The rapper was incarcerated in a prison in Gretna, Louisiana when Hurricane Katrina struck on August 29. The hurricane produced the worst natural disaster in United States history.

“C is alive, he was shipped off to Angola,” a source close to Miller told AllHipHop.com. “He personally said he’s alive and doing OK.”

The Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola is known as one of the roughest prisons in the country, housing the state’s most notorious and violent criminals.

In earlier published reports, Miller's older brother, mogul Percy "Master P." Miller stated that he didn’t know the whereabouts of his brother and his expressed concern for his safety.

Yesterday, officials started transferring almost 1,000 inmates out of flooded prisons. Some prisons were flooded so bad, inmates were forced to flee for their lives.

US Marshals took a batch of inmates to a federal prison in Florida and another load is slated to make the trip today (September 9).

In related news, Senators from Arkansas have introduced legislation that would require criminal background checks for all that have fled to the state after being displaced by the hurricane.

It is estimated that at least 1 million people have been displaced from Hurricane Katrina and have been forced to flee to other parts of the United States to take up refuge

This is wrong. Background checks based on what? mere suspicion? Citizens carry the presumption of innocence, and should be able to travel without this kind of foolishness.

If this passes (which I doubt), should we then require criminal background checks before we let Arkansans leave the state? why not? (no disrespect to any GCers from Arkansas, but this right here ^^ makes no sense.)

I don't know if I am bothered by this or not.

On one hand, you have missing prisoners (including those that were in the local jail) and sex offenders who had it not been for Katrina, would be either still be on lock down or monitored. It would make sense to isolate known criminals from the general population as well as known sex offenders as well because there are children there and easy access to them as well.

But on the other hand, you don't want ALL evacuees feeling degraded, humiliated or targeted. Its a hard call because I can easily say that if the option is between me and my kids sleeping next to a known criminal/pedofile or a background check, I'll go for background check.

Now people giving the authorities their actual name is a whole 'nother story.

Assuming that most people are probably without a form of personal ID, how can you verify who is who? I guess if they are in the system already, you could run prints or something....

I understand that there are prisoners running wild that need to be caught, but I don't think it is fair to make these survivors jump through any more hoops to get their lives back on track. Don't you have to take a mugshot and fingerprints when you're imprisoned? Is all of that information stored in the jail with you? I thought it was centrally located. If so, flash their pics on tv and inform the public of those who are not accounted for. I'm sure they have an idea of about how many people are missing. But I really hope they do not require background checks. That's just a little much.

I can't wait to see the buff Michael Jackson...that should be...interesting...

And instead of shorter wigs, why doesn't he just go for no wig at all? He scared to let folks see his napps? We all know he supposed to be black and ain't nothing wrong with napps.
