I hope this question can be answered and is not offensive, that is not my intent.

Although it makes perfect sense to not allow someone to wear your nelia, seeing your letters on a popular t.v. show is like FREE PUBLICITY for your frat/sorority. I'm sure the Network legal team approached the organizations in question for permission if they planned to use a non-member sporting the nelia in a shot. With that in mind, I'm sure not all actors/actresses are members of these organizations. I do, however, concede the possibility of these actors/actresses being members.

I never saw it, but a few folks mentioned it to me.
Now, about A Different World...
As many greeks as there are in this world, I can't even fathom why they'd have non-greeks wearing NPHC 'nalia!!! After all, the show was produced by Bill Cosby-- an Omega, and directed by Debbie Allen--an AKA! I refuse to believe they'd let non-greeks wear those letters! I just can't see it!

No offense, but Debbie Allen is not an AKA. Her sister Phylisia Rashad is an AKA.

Hello everyone. I was reading the thread and I just found out that Debbie Allen is NOT a member of DST. This is news to me because I have seen her on a list of famous members so to hear that she is NOT is a shock. If I ever come across this list again I will definitely post it. As for the fake Greeks in TV shows, well it's just that, fake. I know that us as Greeks see it differently, but as an actress I have a different view on it. When I see women on A Different World wearing my letters, I do get excited but I doubt that they are my sorors. To find members of Alpha Kappa Alpha who are auditioning to be an extra on the show might not be as easy to come by as one thinks. These are just normal people who wait on line all day long with their headshots and resumes looking for work. They get the job and producers throw them a shirt and say put this on. It's as simple as that. The set of a television show is NOT a real University so as for them being real members, that is highly unlikely.

Is Kym Whitley a member of DST? I remember when A.J. Johnson, who is a member of DST, was on Oh Drama and they were dancing outside AJ was throwing up the sign and Kym started doing it as well.

Yes Kym is a Delta. She became one during undergraduate years at either Fisk or Shaw University. I can't remember which.

AJ Johnson was Morris Chestnut's wife in THE INKWELL. She played SHaraine in HOUSE PARTY. She was the one who lived in the projects and was Tisha Campbell's girl in the movie.

She also is Tyrese's mother in his new movie (I don't think it is out yet) Baby Boy, which is soooooo scary to me, considering we were at Spelman at the same time! (Well, she is a bit older than me, though!)

Now I know why I loved-ed that girl. Not only was she fine (way better than Tisha) but a Delta as well. Kid shoulda picked her. She is my type of hype!! (I know y'all remember that from the movie). You sure that Kym Whitley went to Fisk? She does not carry herself like a Fisk Alumna.

I went to BET.com's webpage and found her BIO which I posted here.
Kym Whitley is an Actor, Director and Stand-up comic. She is set to co-host BET's new fall morning show, Oh Drama! Oh Drama! will feature a morning dose of news, information, and celebrity guests answering e-mails and taking your calls, OH Drama gets your morning started off right. Broadcast live from BET's Los Angeles studios, this captivating program gives viewers a morning jolt of entertainment, excitement and laughter.
She most recently starred as Darice Mayberry, the occasionally high strung manager of a family owned Los Angeles storefront law firm, in the Sitcom SPARKS. This comedy series about family dynamics, sibling rivalry and office romance was a 20th Century Fox Production for UPN.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Whitley got her start in show business while visiting Los Angeles and the set of the music/dance show Soul Train with her friend, singer Gerald Levert. Her striking resemblance to now sister Sister star, Jackee, got her noticed and prompted an invitation two days later to portray "Sandra's" look alike cousin on the sit-com "227's" last season. Later, Whitley worked again with Jackee, this time playing her twin sister in the NBC movie of the week Double your Pleasure. Whitley has guest starred on numerous series, including Married with Children, The Parenthood and Martin.
She was a series regular on Nickelodeon's My Brother and Me and All That. Her feature film credits include Street Wars and 25 Lighthouse. The latter of which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1996.
In addition to her work in front of the camera, Whitley has extensive credits, behind the scenes. While honing her craft with classes and workshops, she served as an assistant to Arsenio hall and Stevie Wonder. She has also worked as a production coordinator on several music videos and on Blair Underwood's directorial debut, the feature film, The Second Coming. After touring in the role of Sister Rosemary in the hit Shelly Garrett play Beauty Shop, Whitley was given the opportunity to again step behind-the-scenes as director of another Garrett production called Living Room. This play went on to gross over 33 million dollars.
Whitley, who has also lived in the Sudan, Africa, is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee.Whitley is currently in the final stages of her first book-project, Never Give Up Unless You Really Can't Act, which is a how to make it in showbiz book.

So THAT's why Jackee's character was promoting DELTA when it came time for one of the twins to consider sorority life! I thought it was just because she had good taste
Speaking of that episode, is Tim Reid an Alpha?

After I saw Soror McCoyred's post, I went to several Alpha websites and checked out their famous members and Tim Reid was NOT listed. I then just now consulted my copy of THE DIVINE NINE and alas no mention of Tim Reid for any of the five fraternities.
So my wager is that NO he is not an Alpha.
