The FIJIs at Pitt all used to have the Greek letters Phi Gamma Delta tattooed on their ankles. This was way before everyone and their mothers got inked. Does anyone know if this is something FIJIs tend to do throughout the fraternity, or if this was just a Pitt thing?
As for the letters-in-bellybutton debate; I think it's adorable provided, as Valkryie mentioned, the belly in question is in shape. In fact, I would probably have a DZ bellybutton bar if I still had my piercing.

lettered thongs are great gag gifts. one sister got me the thong w/the rhinestone letters, while it still has its tag on it, it is pretty funny. Yea they mean something but they are great for jokes and stuff.
I really do think tho that the dirty party shirts are WAY worse than your thong/granny panties. After all...how many people see your t-shirt versus your panties...
There really must be a market though because this stuff is EVERYWHERE!

There are some people that don't even like the idea of wearing letter jackets. They feel it is like "turning their back on their letters". I heard that from an AGD I think. I think that is a bit extreme. I have no problem wearing my jacket, in fact I'm proud to.

Lettered tissues. You really don't want to be wiping noses and possibly dirty hands on your letters. What's interesting was that they actually sold AGD tissues at convention last year. I think that's wrong.

Did they have the letters printed on the tissues themselves or just on the box?

They weren't in boxes but in plastic wrapping. I recall seeing letters, but I'm not sure if it was the wrapping or on the tissues themselves. If it was the latter, then it's just plain wrong. Any AGDs who remember seeing it at the shop, please clarify!
ETA: Fratrow.com definitely sells lettered towels

I could see people have a problem with the lettered soap they make now. It could be seen as washing your letters down the drain!

I know the purpose of tissues is to wipe noses and clean dirty hands, but I don't think I've actually seen anyone use a tissue with the AGD letters.
I know a lot of people who buy them just because they look pretty.
I see it this way, most people would seek toilet paper or other wiping implements before they'd rip that AGD tissue pack open.

I thought the tissues would be for tears of happiness, like at Preference, Bid Day, or a candle passing

That would make sense.
You can add FireSide and Senior Farewell/Rededication to the list.

I personally don't like:
tissues
undergarments
tattoos of the crest or letters
I love my letter pants (on the butt) and I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing them. I also think that it is okay to get a tattoo that is a symbol of the sorority, like a family line symbol or something like that.

My mom got me the KD thong as a gag gift. It's a little more tasteful than the ones y'all are talking about--it only has a green bear on the front, not actual letters or a crest. Still, it was kind of funny.
Anyway, I don't really see a problem with any of the items listed here, except for the dirty-sounding event shirts and things not worn in a classy manner. The tissues, as mentioned before, are probably special-occasion things, and the shot glasses? I have one because I thought it was kind of funny (even though I don't drink and we'd be in biiiiig standards trouble if one came out at a drinking party). Besides, shot glasses are happy little collectable things that you can get almost anywhere--might as well have one for my sorority, eh? I guess my biggest complaint are people wearing things with letters that just don't look good on them--belly rings on flabby bellies, four-sizes-too-small t-shirts, lettered thongs sticking up over your pants, or lettered tank tops with bra straps hanging out, etc.

I think everyone is reading into this too much.
"sitting on your letters" sorry but its a piece of clothing and its showing your pride by WEARING the letters....
let me get flamed for this, but i feel like people overreact and make big deals just to have something to bitch about
