We will be holding a candle light vigil on campus at 8 on Wed. That's when it will really hit me hard.

Though a different legacy, you still joined DSP
Cause you met by chance another brother from LLC
You were pinned as a new member of the DK pledge class
I remember when you took me cause you got me so fast

And you were Jim’s little bro, we saw that he taught you well
You had met a cool girl named Lori, had got her under your spell
You had friends from different houses, ZBT, DU, KD
They all would be drawn towards you, you’re the life of the party

We would hang out in your dorm, there we found a strong connection
I would chill out in your room, you would steer me in the right direction
Preping for the night, watching TV, you three chillin
Won’t forget the time you noticed that I listened to Bob Dylan

Would enter through your balcony, watch same movies again
You drove us in your Explorer, when we all watched Anchorman
And sometimes it’s just so hard, to look at our memories
It’s just so hard to accept, He chose this as your destiny

Chad called to attention, that your room was all a mess
And I’d tell him to just chill, as I sat across your desk
And that night that we had fought, over who’s Supi’s big bro
All this stuff that I remember, still so much I had to know

Delta Sig won’t be the same, at least won’t be for a while
Cause we can’t get out our minds, your plain fun-loving smile
If you ask me what to say about you through this darkened strife
All I’ll say is I don’t know a guy who had a greater life

We would act like such a fool, you’d tell us it was normal
You had such anticipation, to hang with Kaira at formal
You’re the Sofa King, good times you’d bring, I know for you the Angels sing
Can’t believe that you’re not with us, feels like I’ve been struck by lightning

Make a play in Crescent Bowl, give us a bear hug
So excited when we listened to Pac’s “Shorty wanna be a thug”
Can’t believe I was deceived and all we’re left to do is grieve
All I know is that you’re with Him, safe as long as we believe

Never got to watch the Blue Collar Comedy Tour
But you’re saving me a seat in Heaven, one for all of us I’m sure
I know you’re smiling at us, getting Texas Hold’ Em ready
Won’t forget the times we played, like that one time you had wrestled Eddie

We would talk about the Fall, how y’all would throw the bash
You would talk about the influence you had from Johnny Cash
So it’s hard to open my blinds, see across to your room
It’s the place where we woke up, and felt effects from the boom

Always thought that we’d grow old, sharing our lives together
We would be Alumni, chilling when our career’s gotten better
Now you’re gone, but I remember you and got nothing to hide
Cause I know our Father’s got a plan to join us on the other side

Hope I can live my life, like you traveling down under
It’s the time that you were happiest, but I sure must wonder
What a life you would have lived, if He let you go on
But I must accept the fact that, for now, you will be gone

It was only three short years, but we knew you belonged here
You’ve left such a touch around us that your love won’t disappear

Your self-determined prophecy was that you got into SC
No doubt about it, we’d agree, that you’re born of a special breed
You touched us all, just ask Davey, or Kuopp, or Carl, or Chad, or Spees
Your look on life had made us take our lives so easily

These vigils, while an important part of the healing process, can be sad beyond belief.

We had to have one last year for one of our brothers at Colorado State who took his own life in his room at our Shelter there.

The family was there, the Greek Community and university turned out. In part it was uplifting, but mostly it was somber. And sad.

One of the chapter officers asked me what he should say to the crowd. What the hell do you tell him? I had no more idea than he did at that point. I gave him some thoughts, but don't know if they really helped. It is selfish, but I thank God that I was the previous Division Vice President and didn't have to officially represent the Fraternity with his parents. It was hard enough just offering condolences.

That one wasn't alcohol related, but in a way there are similarities. Our brother shot himself -- our recent four brothers and sisters killed themselves as well. They just didn't mean to. However, consider this...is handing alcohol to someone until he or she is sick -- or even dies -- contributing to their unintentional "suicide?"

We simply MUST find some moderation.
