Talking IT IS HERE!

I am in a state of disbelief even thought I am holding my lazy Phi pin in my hands...It is beautiful. There aren't the adequate words to descibe how I feel. Let's just say I have had it for 25 minutes and I am still smiling to the point of it hurting.

I cannot wait to show and share it with 'you all'. It is going to my jewelers tomorrow...it needs a check-up for the security of the stones and clasp.

I just wish it could whisper in my ear where it came from and where it has been in the last 120 years or so.

I have no regrets and I hope my excitement is felt through cyber-space and to all of you. Whenever I go to any Alpha Phi event big or small I will bring it with me so everyone can hold it. And silly me had a dream that I found an old box at an estate sale and inside were enough pins for my regional team. I like that dream!

Maharet! Post some pictures of you wearing your beautiful pin once it's had it's "checkup." I'd love to see how beautiful it looks when worn by a beautiful Phi!

Thumbs up

Yes I will be at Regionals and of course you can hold it! I intend to let this pin have a wonderful second life...The next passage is from the seller - it isn't much history, but as you read this, the pin might not have ever been here at all...

"This pin for the last 10 years has resided in San Diego, CA with a very good friend of mine who collects fraternity and sorority pins. This pin was rescued from an LA swap meet a decade ago from a gold dealer. I say rescued because in all likelihood if he had not got his price back then he would have scrapped the pin out losing it forever. She has kept the pin until the right deal came along. Her father was a Sigma Chi and I had an 1898 all diamonds and emeralds Sigma Chi badge that she wanted. We swapped and that is all the history I know of the pin. The good news is that it has new life with an Alpha Phi!!!!"

Oh wow! OH WOW!!!

Maharet,

I just want to congratulate you on the aquisition of such a piece of history for Alpha Phi. I am touched by your generosity towards your sisters by offering to let them touch, wear and hold the pin too. It sounds like you really have a heart for Alpha Phi - I think you deserved to win the pin.

The part where you said that you wish the pin could whisper to you where it has been in the last 120 years is especially sweet. I'm sure the sister who originally owned the badge would be smiling right now, knowing how much you love her badge.

Well done Triad sister!

.....Kelly

PS - My big sister, GPhiBLtColonel, is a member of the Crescent Catchers for Gamma Phi Beta. They put out a newsletter detailing all of the pins they have "caught", along with stories about how some pins were reunited with their original owners. It's really neat to read about all of the pins!

Plus, the Crescent Catchers recently managed to obtain a badge from Alpha chapter dated 1887!! I can't wait to see a picture of that one!!

Here's a question for those in the know. Let's say I wanted to go and have a Lazy Phi badge made -- like the early sisters used to do when they had their own styles made for them. Does Alpha Phi International have any rules barring such a thing?

Not that I have the money to "build" my own badge, I was just curious if there was an International stance on people having their own badges made. Some of these early badges -- as Maharet's proves -- were truly works of art.
