I've met with someone who is interested in AI with ADPi, but I have the feeling that she's gotten a little discouraged with the seemingly *lack* of enthusiasm for getting her involved with ADPi by the person she contacted for more information about becoming a potential AI. What I'm curious about, is if maybe she were to meet some of the *younger* ADPi alumnae and those were enthusiastic about AI, would that possibly increase her chance of becoming an ADPi AI?

Personally, I am of the opinion that that age restriction is set to clearly define parameters between alumnae life and collegiate life. A woman at age 23 might be interested in sorority life, but she is considering the opportunity of what might be afforded at the collegiate level. Giving a few years between the age of a typical undergraduate degree recipient (22/23) and 25 or so allows that prospect a few years in the working world, maturity, a new perspective, etc. Collegiate involvement and alumnae involvement, although the same organization, are different in terms of time committment and activity. We want to make sure that a woman's reasons for interest in AI are genuinely to participate and conduct herself as an alumnae member. And the great thing about being 23 is that you will get older. And in the meantime, get involved in your community, volunteer, pick a new hobby, excel at your job. You never know when you might meet an ADPi.

I've done a bit of research on this topic because I am working with my alumnae association to get my best friend in as a AI. The way I understand the paperwork sent out by EO is that, it depends largely on the indvidual woman and there are exceptions made for the age requirement as well as the school requirement.
example; my friend is only 23, but she meets the other requirements. She is getting married and is not focused on what the typical collegiate member is focused on and therefore would not do well as a collegiate member. She would, however make a great asset to our alumane association and have alot more in common with the alumnae members who are also thinking more of family life than sorority life.
I have also seen the opposite happen, my chapter initiated a woman who could have been AI but wanted the collegiate expirence. She became a sort of den mother for the younger girls and her leadership skills really stood out. It was a blessing because in the years after my transfer my chapters aspiring leaders had dwindled.
It just goes to show that everyone has a unique place in our organization. So aspiring AI's don't give up. Getting a chapter and/or association going on this can be tough ( I currently know more than our association president) if you need more info Sally Thomas @ EO will e-mail you .doc files of the whole program. including an application.
I will keep you posted on how this turns out my friend is coming to our badge day event and i'm hoping to introduce her to enough people to get a vote. cross your fingers!!!

When doing AI does EO do an extensive "background" check to make sure they were never in another NPC group??

The AI application goes through an extensive approvals process to ensure that she meets all the criteria. We would never initiate someone who was already an initiated member of another NPC/NPHC.

adpiucf- this might sound like a really, really stupid question, but I'm kind of tired right now too. Anyways, what about if the PNM AI was in a local sorority?

That is a great question, Brianna!

A woman who was initiated by a local sorority is eligible for membership in any NPC/NPHC sorority. A great example of this is one of our Greek Chatters, Rachel (I think her GC name is Absolutuscchick?) who was initiated into a local and then pledged/initiated into Kappa Delta sorority.

As long as an AI or collegian has not been initiated into an NPC/NPHC sororority, and meets the other eligibility requirements, she is qualified to be an ADPi.
