We're so happy you're enjoying the wonderful time of recruitment (otherwise known as hell week to actives! ) Thanks for the update, and keep up that great positive attitude!

Good luck, TarHeelGirl! I totally understand that you want some privacy during rush - but I hope you let us know how it went afterwards!
Best of luck to you!

Sorry that things went not-so-well this round. I admire your decision to give the two a chance since they extended one to you!
Without trying to lead you on, I want to remind you that sometimes, a group can only invite 50 women back and you were 51st. That could mean that you could still be considered in future rounds - or not. It's a possibility.
Don't forget, we're all here to help you! Good luck!!

I'm so sorry to hear what happened, TarHeelGirl. I'm not too knowledgeable with everything that goes on "behind" recruitment, but as honeychile said, you may be the 51st woman on their list and may get an invite back at a later round. I'm glad to hear that you gave the two invites a chance, and you may have made a sparkling impression on those organizations and you'll continue to go back and really find your home! I hope that if things don't work out for formal recruitment, you'll possibly think about COR or even AI after college. You have much to offer to a GLO, whether it's in college or as an alumna

I wish I had seen your thread earlier.
I'm at a school just down the road..
Anyways, I am SUPER glad you decided to stick it out.
As far as your rec question, everyone I know at Chapel Hill who rushed/pledged a sorority had recs. The Panhel people make them out to be "optional" but unfortunately I think they are really important in distinguishing the many girls who rush.
BEST OF LUCK!

I'm so sorry, hun -- I know cuts are tough -- but I am super proud of you for giving those two chapters another chance. If you don't feel like it's where you belong, you can always not go back, but sometimes it takes chapters a couple rounds to shine and you might later find yourself at home there.
Good luck! And no matter how things turn out, please remember that you are welcome here at GC and we are behind you!

Keep your head up, girl! You might be asked back to some houses from first round later on - or you might end up loving the 2 houses that "kept" you.
Thanks for the update and good luck!

TarHeel,
Since I'm right down the road at NCSU, I have a lot of friends in the houses at UNC...several things to think about...sadly, UNC lost two chapters this past Spring, so rush will be a little different for all parties involved this time - they are used to having the two other houses, I'm not sure how that will affect numbers (I guess quota would just rise, but I don't know enough about the numbers game to know if the loss of two chapters would affect things). Also, go to as many rounds as you can...sometimes chapters really shine you when you get to later rounds (especially Pref.) - so don't give up. All of the houses are awesome! I can't wait to hear the continuation of the story! And good luck with invites! I'm crossing my fingers for you!!

Dagnabbit.....
why why why WHY does NPC keep up this ridiculous facade?? Why can't they just say "at certain schools, you need a rec or you will be SOL." It would be a lot more honest for everyone involved.
end of vent.
anyway, good luck TarHeelGirl...as everyone said sometimes the difference between the first impression and second impression you get of a sorority is immense!! I hope these work out for you.

It is really annoying - those schools should just say: "At Competitive State U, nearly every sorority requires a recommendation. If you are having trouble finding one, here are several local alumnae panhellenics for Mobile, Birmingham, Chicago, LA, New York, etc, who will be happy to assist you with recommendations." I think a lot of wonderful women get overlooked because they believed this hooey from Panhell.
