Thumbs up Greek Alumna From The University of Michigan Here!

Have no worries about rushing as a sophmore.

I can say honestly that you will not need a rec. Not that it would hurt to have one, but I dont know of any houses that really look at them unless you're a legacy.

WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES.... You're going to be doing A LOT of walking. Especially on Sun. Sept 14. This is when you'll be going to to most houses. Unfortunately, we dont have a Greek Row, just an huge area of A2. But its a wide and long area. Sigma Kappa house is the farthest and a little bit of a hike.

Hecklers-- You will have those. Let me explain. You will be placed into a rush group that may have 40-60 girls. (its done by alphabetical order). You will be walking all over A2 with these girls during rush led by two Recruitment Counselors. People know its sorority rush but unfortunately you have some idiots non-greeks and some fraternity guys who like to poke fun at the groups by shouting dumb things to them. Pay them no attention. It can get annoying but sometimes, it can be humorous and takes a the tension out of Recruitment.

Recruitment Counselors-- If you ever have any questions or doubts. Please feel free to talk to them or give them a call.

Go in with an open mind to all the houses. All 15 are great and each can offer something. Disregard all rumors and reputations that you may have heard about any of them. A good 95% arent true. Which you many already know

Most importantly.... relax be yourself. The houses are just as nervous about making a good impression as much as you are.

If you have any questions, please feel more then free to ask or PM me.

I still have 34 days before my rush starts, it's taking FOREVER! Reading everyone's rush threads is making me anxious for it to finally get here!
I'm still looking for shoes that I can wear with a black skirt but be able to walk around in (UMGirl wasn't kidding when she said the houses are spread far apart). Any suggestions for styles/brands that are dressy but comfortable after 5 or 6 hours?
I got some great news this week when I found out 2 of my mom's friends are going to give me rec's, both to houses that I'm interested in. I know they aren't necessary, but I'll take any help I can get. Our rush isn't cut-throat like some southern schools, but from last year I remember lots of girls getting cut and being devastated, so I'm hoping a rec will at least get me noticed and considered.

I found some cute shoes at Payless. They're little black flats with three decorative holes at the top of the shoe. It's hard to explain, but they're adorable. I wore them to a wedding and a lot of people came up and told me how cute they are. PLUS, I only spent $13 on them.

Just wanted to say good luck, you've got some time to wait but recruitment will be here before you know it. Keep reading the threads on GC, the pnms here are simply wonderful and give such great insights into the recruitment experience. violets

Tomorrow is the first day of class and I am very excited. I am going to go drop off my rush registration form at the office of greek affairs after class. It seems like rush is still taking forever to get here! I think my rush is the last one so hopefully I'll finish this addiction off with a good note! The Mass Meeting about rush isnt for another week and its another week before mixers.
This sudden surge of cold weather is messing up my planned outfits too. 3 days ago it was in the 80's and 90's and now its rainy and in the 70's... not so much fun anymore, but at least I have LOADS of time to re-plan clothes!

Well I got some bad news today, I talked to one of my friends in one of the big name sororities and she pulled me aside to tell me that her sorority does NOT take sophmores. As a rule. She was like "I just want you to know it's nothing personal, I don't want you to be hurt by this, but you're gonna get cut first rounds from us." So I was a little disappointed, but hey there are a bunch of other great options still available (I hope!)

Sorry to hear that!

I really wish that wasn't the case at any school, for any organization. Orgs miss out on really great women just because they are a year or two older when they decide to rush. Just not fair.

On the upside you have a number of great organizations to choose from. If there are a few that cut sophmores I honestly believe that is their loss.

Keep your spirits up and good luck!

Well, that sorority does not know what they are missing out on! hmph! I personally think that attitude sucks!

I have a hard time understanding the idea of not extending bids to anyone who is not a freshman. My pledge class (yes we were pledges) was 14. We had 3 juniors, 2 sophmores and 11 freshman. We were pledges for an entire semester and all of us were active until we graduated. Most of us lived in the house through out our KD college lives.
