Sadly, my chapter doesn't do *that* many rituals. When we do, only the people who have major parts in it ever see our ritual books. Most of us don't have a clue what's in them. I would think that it would be okay for initiated sisters to be able to read through the ritual books, but I guess not. I don't know if it's like that for other organizations though.

We actually have occasional ritual reading nights... Basically a few initiates will show up at the house and just read the ritual. Refresh themselves, etc. I know that every time I read it or hear it I get something different from it.

If you don't pay much attention to your ritual you're missing out on something huge.

Ditto to ktsnake's comments -- right on target.

It should not only be okay for initiated sisters (or brothers) to read through ritual books, it should be encouraged. We certainly encourage brothers to study and be very familiar with our Ritual.

And our national constitution requires that "All rituals of the fraternity shall be presented from memory."

After I got initiated I asked the ritual chair if I could look at the book and she goes "Well, I guess, but there isn't much in here..."

When are you holding elections? Maybe you should run for Ritual chair because she is obviously not very interested.

Our president keeps all the ritual stuff at her place. I mentioned something to our old president (we just had officer transitions) about looking at the ritual book once, and she just gave me a look like "and just why do you want to look at it?" It was like I had just committed a no-no of sorts, going to ground I shouldn't.

We have a new one now, who I am living with next semester, so hopefully I'll get to see it then!

That is crazy! All initiated brothers or sisters should be able to read their ritual books! It should only be kept secret from those who are not members of the GLO (obviously) but to keep it hidden from sisters scares me for some reason.

Smile Initiation Boo-Boos

I have the classic initiation boo-boo of all times! When I was initiated into Phi Sigma Kappa, we were all told as we left the room the ceremony was held in "the next five words you hear will be the secret password". As we passed out of the room, blindfolded, an active whispered to each of us, "Don't fall down the stairs." (We went immediately down a stairway). So when we later had to re-enter the room, all thirteen of us got the password wrong, answering "Don't fall down the stairs." We all got a good chuckle from that one, but it showed that we were paying attention!

another boo boo

okay so initiation can be a long day for everyone i would imagine, but PLEASE EAT BEFORE ATTENDING. i say this because every intiation that we held there is always some one next to me who has a monster in their stomach. when evryone is dead silent and is waiting for the next part to start, there is always someones stomach growling for at least thirty seconds. it is hilarious. last time i could not stop laughing and i was next to our national officer. oopsy

Wow.. I'd be pretty upset with someone if they said that about my ritual.

It's something that should be very important to your organization. Your ritual should be your organizational identity. If not, why is it that you wear the letters that you wear?

LOL...

When I was initiated, I wasn't nervous in the sense that anything bad was going to happen, but I was so emotionally overwhelmed by the wonder and beauty that I kept thinking "Oh no, please don't let me fart!".... It would have been disastrous, and I don't really know what made me think that... But it's pretty funny in retrospect..

Off the original topic, but in line with this way the thread is shaping up.....

During one part of our ritual, our president bit it.....hard! Of course, it was during one of the most solemn parts. To everyone's credit, no one laughed, then. She never did hear the end of it though.
