So far they are just trying to get names that sound funny I guess you could say once you have the plain letters. (KOX, BOB etc, etc) Also, since they are brand new freshman they don't realize how it works on campus. Once you get all the legal work finished you have to go to the AGC to even get -recognized-. And w/o any support from the other GLO's on campus your trip stops there. Like in my case, I've been around for a couple of years and have friends in each GLO and the girls I'm with have friends in the GLO's also..so it adds up in support. If the guys are serious, then I'm for them, but, no matter who I talk to (Greek or Non-Greek) I've been told the same thing. *shrugs*

Well that's a totally different story then! I just hate to see a group of guys who are legitimately trying to get organized get knocked. SigEp on my campus got knocked a lot when they colonized, and as far as I'm concerned, in 5 years on campus they've accomplished more than any other org.

GRRR.
I'm glad I'm writing this after I had some time to cool off. Well, if you're all curious what happened..here it is. When I was walking cross campus today I ran into Erika (one of my buds in doing this) and me and her started talking about the basic jist and some planning ideas. Well, unfortunetly, one of the girls from a local sorority (who's been practically stalking me to pledge her glo.. ) and she then gave us the impression that we weren't wlecome in the AGC. After I pointed out that we were doing this in hopes to have a national sorority come to campus she then got on her highhorse saying we didn't need any more sororites on campus and etc. Then I told her that we were focusing basically on a lot of community service (which we are) and then she suggested that we start a chapter of a co-ed service glo. I was like, "What?? Don't you get it? We want to be in a s-i-s-t-e-r-h-o-o-d and not your crappy group!" of course, this was all going on in my mind. And on top of that she was enjoying informing us that we needed their vote to get in the AGC. Now it's just getting irritating. I mean, there's nothing -bad- about the other GLO's but we've all rushed (and been given bids) but we all share that same feeling , we just didn't feel a connection w/that GLO. I mean personally, I never had the aspirations to wear -those- letters of the other glo's. I guess some people just do not understand that.

She probably sees your new sorority as a threat, especially if the fraternities are excited about it.
I'm not dissing service GLOs, but some people want the social aspect, too, and my national (which I'm sure isn't the only one) encourages us to do community service. In fact, my chapter *requires* 5-10 service hours per semester. There's no rule that says you can't help the community out AND be social! Maybe you do need that girl's sorority's vote, but maybe her sisters don't feel the same way she does.

If you're already established on campus, why would anyone worry about your affiliating with an NPC group? It's not like you're trying to start another group. Maybe they're just a little jealous?
Alpha Xi Delta does colonize locals, They're in the process of doing it at UTEP. Good luck however things turn out.

doubleblue&gold- We're not even a local yet But...we're working on it..and then hoping to have a national colonize us.
achtungbaby- Oh, don't worry, we'll be plenty social..lol.. But we do want to have some requirements like a certain amount of hours of community service in place for us.
Oh, and you might have seen her 'round campus..she stalks the pnm's..
But yes, hopefully the other sisters won't see us as much of a threat. Each glo has a certain type of people in it. And the group that I fall in isn't her's, no matter how much she tries to rush me, she still freaks me out..lol Thankfully I do have a very good friend in the same glo that will speak in our behalf along w/the other sororites. So..yeah.. *shrugs*

No, I haven't, but I don't think I *want* to run into her!
There's always got to be one person that makes things difficult, but hopefully her sisters will talk some sense into her.

Oh, another update on the 'stalker' girl. Well, I was still fuming when I seen her thursday night (we have band together) and I ran into her sorority sister. Well, I found out that she's getting upset w/her also because she's trying to run the whole organization when she only been a member for a year. So, I was like, "I'm kinda having problems w/her too..." and proceeded to tell her what happened. She just got even more upset and I have a feeling that she ripped her a new one. lol! Oh, remember when I told you guys about the loss of a vote from the soro that had the prez dating my psycho ex? Well, a girl that I talk to all the time is apart of the association (in which I just found out like the same day!) and I guess the prez was prez last year and now she's practically disowned her own soro! And that they're even having trouble w/my former pledge sister (who's now pledging them)! I'll probably ask her about what she thinks about the new soro deal tuesday when we have class together. *nods*
Oh, we've picked out our name and stuff (so far). We are going to be Kappa Gamma Xi
Colors: navy, light blue, and silver
Mascot: cresent moon w/an angel
Believe it or not, I can't remember anything else..lol..I have it written somewhere...
KGX love, Kayla

Update once more
Well, so far here's the support:
We have 'yes' votes from 3 out of the 8 GLO's on campus. But, I have a feeling that we will have 3 more 'yes' votes from the soro's. So if we get 6 out of the 8, we're in I spoke w/one of the sisters of a sorority and she said that she is going to bring up us at a meeting tonight and that we have a high chance to getting through the AGC. Yippee! We also have another girl I got her..
Oh, Texas*Princess, thanks for your ongoing support!!

Hey, TKE209Sweethrt, I did some checking for you, and there used to be a chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma at Rio! Maybe that was the national that one of the locals used to be affiliated with, because I still can't find any record of there *ever* being a Chi Omega chapter there.
Disclaimer: Of course, I didn't hunt through *every* NPC sorority's web pages, because I don't have anywhere close to that much time, so maybe I'm overlooking something.
Congrats on your new sorority--I know you'll get enough votes! Most of the sorority members I've met have been really nice girls so I bet they'll vote in your favor, plus, you KNOW the fraternities will welcome a new sorority!

Heya Jodi! Actually....we were looking at AXD! That's one of our top choices!! Heck, that's where we got our mascot idea from! (But, don't worry, no Fuzzie ) Umm...I don't think you know any of the girls though, but, I'll ask around
AchtungBaby80-What??? There was a national sorority here???? *faints* The Greek Life Advisor didn't say a -thing- about it. Hmm..I think its time to for me to do my own digging in the old associations inventory! Oh yes, I'm giving up on the XOA deal, I hear they were national and then I don't..oh well!! I checked the XO site one day and didn't find anything either *nods*
Everyone else - Guess what....we now have a total of 9 girls!! *does a little dance* Just 3 more and we'll have enough!! Monday night we're going to go bowling w/all of the ladies we have so far to really meet them altogether. Cause see, we all got a couple girls, yet, we haven't all met them together! Now it's just all coming together! I can't wait til next week because this week the 'main 3' is racked w/projects this week..we need some time off to get more things ready!! Well, I'm off to go to class..
Soon-to-be-Greek-hopefully, Kayla
