Japan is a first world country like we are. Sendai is a large and beautiful city. I don't know what poverty has to do with any of this.

EW is suggesting that Japan somehow manages not to loot and riot, unlike our urban areas during, lets say... Katrina. It's thinly veiled racism.

Thing is, Japan not being prepared for earthquakes would be like my hometown not being prepared for a tornado. The fact that New Orleans was not prepared for a hurricane was the whole fucking point.

Not all urban areas.

Nashville did fine.

The point of...rioting and looting?

I gave up at "I still ain't forgave japan for Pearl harbor"

Because clearly, dude was present for the attack. And every current resident of Japan was responsible for the attack.

We should nuke Japan. Then we'd be even. Too bad this earthquake happened instead.

If only a tsunami was a payback for Pearl Harbor, I would hate to see what happens to the United States.

Seriously incredulous at those facebook responses. Unbelievable. No mention whatsoever of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We need better history education in this country.

It doesn't even matter, the fact that Pearl Harbor was mentioned at all shows a distinct lack of critical thinking skills. If you teach them history without the thinking then they'll just learn the wrong lessons from it anyway.

People are idiots.

For any still interested in the nuclear issue, this is a really good editorial by an MIT nuclear engineer/physicist.

I posted it on facebook, but anyone concerned about the alleged 'map of fallout' from Japan to the US. It's bunk. See snopes.com. Just forestalling that.
