Thumbs up

As much I don't like Britney Spears (there's a little thing called "class" which I think she lacks a lot of), I think she would be a great attribute for a sorority. I think that I pretty much speak for many sorority girls when I say that the prestige that comes along with pledging Britney Spears would be very welcome. The chapter would definitely be spoken of nationally through the media.

Not that I am opposed to Brittany-- she always seems nice on TV-- I don't think she presents the best image. I personally wouldn't want to give someone a bid because she means good media coverage.

P.S. I hope she does join Chi-O. It is the best soroity (as in looks, money, and style).
And for those that think she is "the bomb" - GET A LIFE. We can all agree to have differing opinions on the girl - and I think that her choices in what she "doesn't" wear speaks in and of itself as far as having class is concerned.

As far as the ORIGINAL topic is concerned - I think it would be hard to pledge someone who would have such significant time restraints. Part of becoming a sister is that you bond together by spending time together doing activities and all. My pledge-sisters and I were pretty much inseparable even when we weren't doing chapter stuff. I would just want her to realize that its more than sticking 3 letters across your chest and saying "I'm an XYZ" -- you have to live it to understand it.

PS - I never thought someone would actually admit that all their sorority is "best" in was looks, money, and style. I'd rather pride myself on my sorority having "sisterhood, true friendship, and class!"

I think that many of you are missing some basic knowledge about Britney's image...

She is *NOT* the one with the control over what she wears. As a music business student, I can assure you that when you see her in public, her publicists and image makers (managers, agents, the record company she works for, etc.) have told her exactly what to wear and the proper way to act to portray the image they're trying to have her keep.

No one you see in entertainment is entirely themselves. In effect they aren't ALLOWED to keep it real. The entire entertainment industry - music especially - is a packaged show for the public. That's why when Old Dirty Bastard gets busted for cocaine charges, his record sales increase, while Whitney Houston's record sales plummet when she's busted for the same thing. They're selling an image, which sometimes is more important than the music itself. I mean, just look at the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync - you think they're all really sweet guys who are always thinking of romantic things to sing about? Not likely. Most artists don't even write their own songs.

Anyway, my point is that unless you know the celebrity PERSONALLY - you don't know them at all, and shouldn't pre-judge them based on the "personality" and image they were hired & paid to represent.

Uhhh...I think Miss Spears has some say in what she does/wears. It disturbs me that although she says she's a god-fearing Christian virgin, she still does a cover of the Stones' "Satisfaction" in nearly nothing. I'm not sure I want to call someone like that a sister. Don't be a hypocrite.

Since when did this become BritneySpearsChat.com ? Let's get back to the real question-I'm pretty sure Patsy Ramsey was an AXiD. How interesting!

yes, sadly Alpha Xi Delta has the dubious distinction of having Patsy Ramsey as an alumna. In older version of The Bonds of Sisterhood (our new member book), she's listed with other famous sisters, as Patsy Paugh, for being some kind of beauty queen. Just shows the dangers of emphasizing looks over sisterhood.

On a funny note, when I was an undergrad, we heard a rumor that the "star" of Debbie Does Dallas was an Alpha Xi! Of course, no one from Nationals would ever verify that for us!

Just so no one thinks that A Xi D is purposely recruiting the dregs of society, we DO have some really cool alumnae ...

... Jan Henson, wife of Jim Henson
She helped Jim create Fozzie Bear. Our mascot is the teddy bear and Fozzie is named after us. Alpha Xi --> al-FA ZEE --> Fozzie. Alpha Xi Delta's are also called "Fuzzies" at some colleges (I know they are at Ohio State). But if Fozzie's jokes annoy you, it's not our fault!

... Betsey Johnson, designer (and her daughter)

... Jan Davis, first female to be captain/mission commander on the space shuttle

... plus the usual laundry list of beauty pageant winners. woo-hoo.

... and me!

I know we want to get away from the Britney Spears talk, but has anyone heard the saying "any publicity is good publicity"? We just spent however long talking about her. Isn't that what her publisist & stylist want? I think they achieved their goal, even if it is sparked because of something negative.

Patsy Ramsey is the woman who many people believe killed her daughter, Jon-Benet Ramsey. Jon-Benet was 5 or 6 (I think) and was a pageant girl.

Yeah, Corbin, you're right. My brother just got initiated into Lambda Chi. He told me that there's a section of famous Lambda Chi's in the Paedagogus(did I spell that right?) and Clein was on the list!! What a cutie!!

I think it'd be obvious that I didn't pledge her, but Betty Crocker was a DZ.
