Add me to the pre-ordered bandwagon! I'm so friggin' excited! "Harry Potter" is now written in huge letters on my calendar on July 16th, and I warned my boyfriend that he shouldn't expect to see me that weekend. (Although I finished OotP on the Saturday that I received it, so I probably won't be tied up for the entire weekend.)

This shouldn't be too much of a shock but:

New Harry Potter book topping wish lists

It's number 1 on Amazon.com in the US too.

Nice to know that I'm not the only crazy one, preordering books months in advance.
I figure I can re-read one a month, and then in June/July, cram for HPHBP

Very Excited!!!!! My birthday is on the 18th, so happy b-day to me!! Oh and let me say, from having worked in a bookstore for 3 years, that you must pre-order your copy (I dont think I have to worry about this crowd, though) if you expect to purchase one anytime up till a week after the release date. My store was a MADHOUSE last summer!

Or you can do what I did for book 5... go to your local Wal-Mart the morning of (like as soon as they open, even if it's at 6am), and there will be plenty of copies because very few people would have been able to buy them from that store yet. Of course, this will not work if it's a 24-hour store.

It depends on the book store. I bought Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix the day it was released and I didn't pre-order it, and I didn't have to wait in crazy lines. The store stocked plenty of books.

My walmart is a 24-hour store. I walked in at about 11:50 pm the day before book 5 was released. Probably about 10 people waiting in line....Of course I knew them all. By the time midnight showed up, probably 50 people in line (and I still knew most of them!...little Iowa town). Everyone got a book, some people got two.

Went back later in the day, and there were still a bunch of books...

I am not going to stress over getting book 6. Probably another late night town get together at walmart on July 15-16

You are LUCKY!!! If I tried that, whoa. Any store I went into the week the book was released (book stores, supermarkets, corner stores, mom and pops, etc) were sold out. From the reports I got from friends with younger sibilings who went to midnight festivities, it was scarey. Kids screaming and crying, pushing and shoving were involved.
I'll sit at home and wait for the mailman/ups guy to deliver my book again, thank you. Although, I did make it a point to be up at 7am to wait for the fed ex guy to arrive...just incase the door bell didn't work

I knew coming back to GC was a good thing! I thought it was just me (and my ex-sister in law) that were so obsessed with these books. I'm glad to see we are not alone and that some of our theories are on target with others. Come on July 16!

If you pre-order the book is it delivered the day it comes out...meaning will it arrive at your home/office the day it is released?

That's what happened with book 5. Amazon wouldn't guarantee delivery on the release date unless you paid for standard shipping - but I ordered it with the free shipping and it arrived on the release date anyway. The box was covered with warnings not to deliver it early.

I pre-ordered a CD and I didn't get it until about a week later. I had used the Free Shipping option.

Since I am dying to get this book, I paid for shipping. (And I didn't want to buy another $10 worth to get the Super Saver and have to wait until July to get it.)

I'm *tempted* to pay for the shipping, but then again - Barnes & Noble doesn't hold items that are ready for release if you pre-order something - I do that all the time (especially with Book #5 in paperback! )
