Clicking on the link, it recants, saying it was a hoax. So yeah for that.

Is this what we're saying is a hoax? That link isn't working for me, and I've found nothing saying it was a hoax. Also, Chi Omega has made a statement about the incident on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ChiOmegaFraternity

Or did I miss something else?

Sorry don't buy the photoshop, I'd hope any organizations nationals would look into things like that before pulling a pin. And if it is true anyway then wouldn't nationals want to make that known?

Honestly I don't buy that a Chi O active would be so stupid and cruel as to post this. Even setting decency aside, she would know that severe repercussions from her sisters, nationals, and the university would follow.

I wonder if the girl, without any logical explanation for the offensive word (knowing she didn't type it), assumed it must have been auto-correct.

I hope that Chi O's "swift discipline" was not so swift that it shortchanged a thorough investigation in a rush for a PR save. That goes for the university, too.

So a question (from Pollyanna) for you lawyers out there: Would either (or both) Chi O and the university have some liability in their rush to judgment/action if the girl blamed was somehow cleared?

National closed the entire Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter here at Ole Miss after the noose on the James Meredith statue incident earlier this year. Not only did the guys have their pins snatched, but the fraternity no longer exists here.

See the story here http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ole-miss...e-noose-tying/

I think it is very wise for all Nationals to step in and create a consequence for an action if the local actives and alums would merely turn a blind eye as they have for many generations. I think this strengthens, revives, and unifies the founding ideals of each GLO.

Really? Someone posts a hateful racist slur on Snapchat and the first instinct amongst GC'ers is to defend the poster?

Sigh.

My first reaction was disgust.

My second reaction was disbelief that any active would be so stupid and hateful. Really, it doesn't make sense. If you recall the disaster last year, it was not the actives who were to blame.

My thought given (yet to be confirmed) possible additional facts is that I hope a thorough investigation was conducted prior to "swift discipline" and a rush to PR CYA.

And it is remarkable that both Chi O and the university were able to accomplish this in a day. A Sunday.

You are wrong. I personally know one of the young ladies who spilled the beans. I made her the hand-sewn smocked daygown her mother brought her home from the hospital in.

Well, I can't trump a hand-sewn smocked daygown.

So a Chi O active told you all about their membership selection? I'm assuming from your username that you weren't present.

I've been here in Oxpatch enjoying my summer off and canning tomatoes for all of the last month ... so, no, I haven't spoken to any UA Chi Os.

The young lady I mentioned was one of the bean spillers from last year ... and last year, it was NOT all about the alums, however you might want to believe that.

Right, because anyone who is even accused of racism should be presumed guilty and immediately shunned. Whatever - your little signatures there are racist and sexist so you and the Chi Os can just cancel each other out.

I think earlier in this very thread, someone posted about a PNM (who was not up to snuff) and was dropped ... and referred to that incident as a bullet dodged (or something like that).

Sometimes, when you discover an unwanted bullet, you just need to empty the chamber, i.e., pull the pin.

My instinct is that it isn't true. I haven't read through all of the "proof" or "disproof" stories because I wouldn't buy any of it anyway. It just doesn't seem plausible. If it would be determined that some stupid dingdong actually did say/post anything like this, then as far as I'm concerned it starts with removal of her pin and since the school probably has standards against this type of behavior, also getting kicked out of school.
