The first TKE L:eadership School I ever went to was hosted by
Gamma Phi (Emporia, my home chapter) in the spring of 1955,
at the Hotel President, Kansas City, MO. In attendance were
chapters Xi-Washington U; Delta Lambda, Central Mo, Delta Mu,
Pittsburg State; Delta Nu, NW Mo, Kansas City U colony; Alpha
Phi, KU, Phi, Nebraska, Alpha Lambda, K-State, Beta Theta, MU,
Beta Omega, SW Mo, and Alpha Upsilon, Ft. Hays. Subsequent
leadership schools were held at the President until the 60s. A
Leadership School, I hosted it, was held at Springfield, MO, in
1968 with over 20 chapters and colonies in attendance. The chapter, Delta Mu, Pittsburg, was in charge.
A goodly numer of regional leadership schools were held in the
fifites, more than I can count.
How quickly we forget.
These were good, ran by the undergrads, and heavily attended by Chapter Advisers and Grand Council members.
In those days chapters could talk coherently to each other, drink
responsibly and learn many new things. Within a couple of weeks TKE had pledged an additional 150 men to the various chapters, so inspired were they.
We are coming back, and the further away from HQ and closer to home, the better. This is not to badmouth HQ rather to get us
nearer our turf and be congenial to one another.
We will be holding the third Regional Leadership Conference in
Colorado this sprring, and are having our best year ever.
