A very good idea...

That is a good idea. I know that all 9 sororities at Ole Miss have a couple a members a year who just don't understand the financial obligations and responsibilities. It is possible to have a job and pay for your sorority dues but you probably won't be able to attend that many functions. I think it is wise if you do need financial help paying dues to work very hard during the summer and save up your money. However, all of the sororities at Ole Miss are all pretty strong financially.

I know at WGa, there is a range listed in the PNM info guide and during recruitment, it is actually posted on the wall. A member willl show it to the pnm.

Hey OleMissGlitter.
What is the projected # of PNMs for Ole Miss this fall?

I haven't heard yet but probably about the same as last year, like 800-900. It might go down though because Panhellenic has passed some new rules regarding grade requirements so that could affect lots of girls going through recruitment. I think they have posted the rules on the website:
http://www.olemiss.edu/greeks/PHC/
I think enrollement is up a little bit again this year but one is never sure how that will affect the numebr of women going through recruitment.
Recruitment dates are:
Oct 8-Oct 15, 2006

I noticed this rule while browsing through the PHC site
From Ole Miss PHC rules:
8. Potential New Members should attend all academic classes, lab, and study groups. A POTENTIAL NEW MEMBER MAY NOT MISS AN ACADEMIC CLASS OR LAB FOR THE PURPOSE OF ATTENDING A RECRUITMENT-RELATED FUNCTION. IF SHE DOES, SHE WILL BE RELEASED FROM FORMAL RECRUITMENT AND BE INELIGABLE TO SIGN A BID CARD UNTIL THE FOLLOWING SEMESETER. If there is a conflict between Recruitment activities and academic requirements, the Potential New Member should contact the Panhellenic Council so that an excuse may be sent to the sororities.
Is this a new rule? Is it something NPC is enforcing nationally?
I'm just asking because I've never actually SEEN this written out in our recruitment rules. I knew the girls were excused from parties when they had class, but nothing was ever put in writing that said they couldn't receive a bid if they skipped. I'm curious as to how this would be enforced.

I should think that PNMs could submit their class schedules with their recruitment applications. That way PHC would know, up front, who would miss which set of recruitment events, etc.
But, hey, why should anything be that organized.

I'm just asking, because I really have no clue, but would their PHC have TIME to go through 900 class schedules, check for conflict, compile a list and send to all the sororities??

The only thing is that Ole Miss's recruitment registration is all online, no paper apps.

If this is a real concern then it should be in writing. Otherwise, people think that it's just "talk".

The PNM will tell their Gamma Chi if they have class of any kind and the Gamma Chi's compile a list, usually more on the first two days of parties since most won't have classes on Friday night. The lists are always excellent and Ole Miss Gamma Chi's do an excellent job of letting us know who has what class and if they will be able to come to another party. There were problems many years ago with PNM's skipping class to go to Recruitment parties and with Ole Miss finally getting a Phi Beta Kappa chapter the University Admin. has put strict rules for us to follow to ensure these women are attending classes during recruitment.
The same goes for active members of sororities. No sorority is to encourage their members to skip classes to attend a recruitment party. Last year most houses had about 10-20 members missing Thursday night parties for an Accounting test that was that night. This year recruitment is right around the same time as Mid-Terms so it should be interesting to see what happens. Professors have been told to not excuse any PNM or Active Members from classes/labs to attend recruitment parties.

It sounds like a great idea, but how many of you knew your exact schedule when you signed up for Recruitment? I know that I signed up in June back when I was a PNM but didn't get registered until July, and even then my schedule changed during the first week of school. Plus, if not all classes have attendence policies, then it's really up to the individual to decide what to do. I know I skipped a class on Bid Day so I could meet more of my pledge class before the night time activities started.
