If the whole town feels so strongly about having their children attend a school that has their conservative religious values then start a private school and send your kids there. But as long as your in a public school funded by public tax dollars and your an employee for the county, or state you have the play by the rules. Im so happy the ACLU got involved and got justice.
I went to a catholic high school and there were plenty of gay students but not once were they ever singled out or chastised by teachers or the administration.
I'll get off my soap box now

I am furious about this. Regardless of what the principal's views were about homosexuality, he is NOT to condone the bullying of a student. And that is regardless of what the reasons for the bullying are.

Sounds like government is the key to solving more of our problems, eh?

Is this a Conservative Republican's rhetorical question?

Not getting your point. What would you suggest to solve the problem? Or do you not think there is one?

This was in our local paper a while back, since Ponce de Leon is about an hour away from my hometown. I've been there a few times (they have Vortex Springs) and it seriously is a backwoods/backwards town. Stuff like this happens all the time.

I gotta blog on this
Tom Earp pulled the race card and connected Obama to this. Really? The sad thing is someone on the planet - obviously a little high - is reading his posts in this thread and completely agrees with him.
I'm sad that Ponce de Leon is acting like it's 1908. I bet money that the principal really felt he was doing a public service for the rest of the school and town with his witch hunt. Disgusting.
I'm even more sad at this from the article:
Quote:
Griffin, who kicked Davis out of the principal's office but allowed him to continue teaching at the school, said high schoolers here aren't exposed to the same things as kids in Atlanta or Chicago.
|
Don't these kids have the world wide web that includes myspace, FB, and youtube? They may have limited face-to-face interaction with gay students and/or adults, but these kids are aware of what's going on in the world.
Kudos for ACLU getting involved, and I also hope PFLAG will do the same.

I want you all to know that PFLAG is full of shit.
I interviewed there last year, made it to the second round. I was sooooooo glad they didn't pick me once I realized what they were all about.

PFLAG doesn't care about black people, black communities, or black cities.
It's ironically very Harper Valley PTA-ish.
The individual chapters do good work, but nationally, not so much.

This happened at my high school more or less as well
A kid was openly homosexual and a teacher called his parents and outed him, GET THIS; his parents pulled him from public school and put him in some kind of military school... true story.
