I just want to add a quick note....
While the "Macon Magnolia Mafia" is cute....it was coined during a heated game.
I don't know if I like the addition of "mafia" as part of the nickname. None of the others have the tag of something with a sinister, malvolent connotation on it as "mafia" carries. (Syracuse Triad, Monmouth Duo, etc)
I must prefer the more "demur" and southernly elegant illustration presented by the simple "Macon Magnolias".

I had never heard the "Macon Magnolias" before GC - is it in widespread usage? I am actually surprised that none of the southern-founded sororities used a magnolia for their flower. Oh - and I think "Macon Magnolia Mafia" would be a cute mixer theme (!).

Just a note, kt, your location says you're "deep in SEC country", so just a reminder, they take rush pretty seriously down there, discretion here will be a good idea until you have a bid in hand. Just something I've picked up by observation...

yes i know how serious rush is down here , i'm a born and bred southern girl. and while i may be deep in sec country only a select few know exactly where i plan on rushing next year and it's not an sec school.
and while mafia overall may have a bad connotation it's not necessarily bad it's all how you intrepret it .. my all-star team had the nickname Purple Mafia for all the time i was there and that's not bad at all.. now when you say Italian Mafia... i think of the godfather ... lol

KT...
the Mafia was coined because we, Macon Magnolias, were double teaming to win "the top sorority" in a silly GC game in a friendly rivalry with our dear Gamma Phi Beta GC friends. Yes, we were a bit annoying .
I still prefer the simple "Macon Magnolias" and always will. Alpha Delta Pi will forever be a fond "sibling" sisterhood in my heart.
HOWEVER, I run an email list for sisters only, and occasionally when we are discussing a transgression by an "outsider" (read husband, boyfriend, annoying coworker, etc) we do refer to ourselves as the "Pink Mafia" when we are rallying around our beleaguered sister. THAT I like a little better.

Sage - looking at your siggy I am struck by how nice the pink and blue look together. (Shh . . .don't tell the Betas!) If you don't mind, I may appropriate the term "Pink Mafia" - I especially like the way you use the term for your sisters-only list.
