Vegetarian here (lacto-ovo, though like others I can't stomach eating eggs alone, they have to be cooked into something). I've always been vegetarian and don't know what meat (of any kind) tastes like, and have no desire to find out. I also try to avoid foods with animal byproducts (ie. gelatin and rennet), but it can be difficult.
As for protein, I tend to eat a lot of soy and vegetable-protein based alternatives. For supper this evening, for example, I had wholewheat pasta with red pesto, parmesan and fake "chicken" pieces made from mushrooms. It was very tasty indeed.
