Just getting back in town. I hope that everyone had a wonderfull and blessed Thanksgiving. I am glad to see this topic, becuase I am extremely proud of my chapter and the work that we do in our community. Give me the opportunity to toot our horn and I will

-We registered about 50 people 2 months ago, and the city workers that we worked with have invited the men of KAPsi to partner with them on other activities.
-We won an award from Arlington Co. for our work with youth in Arlington Co.
-We along with other chapters in the Eastern Province are working with Habitat for Humanity to build a house in Norfolk, VA for a needy family.
-A few months ago, we held our anual Kamp Kappa for underpriveliged youth. We take around 30 - 40 students to a camp and try to provide them with alternatives to the ones they often see on the streets.
-We will donate some computers to charity the first of the year.
-Our Guide Right Program works with around
50 - 60 young men in the Northern VA area to provide them with alternatives to the streets.
-We provide $5000 a year in scholarship money to college students.

There is probably more, but that is all that I could think of at this time.

This Thanksgiving, my chapter was able to provide 12 families with a full Thanksgiving dinner via our annual Thanksgiving baskets. We had 4 last year. We hope to continue to grow this to help even more next year. We also do Adopt-a-Highway and Walk America. We have several Sorors in the chapter who are certified for Open Airways, and have worked with the ALA on events last year. For the holidays, I think we are doing an Angel Tree.

Additionally, our big fundrasier this year, as well as a major service project, is our Blue Revue Debutante Ball.

My chapter has had a coat drive, Buckle Up Day (we handed out fliers at local garages reminding people to buckle up)everyday, but especially during the holiday season when folks tend to get their drink on more than usual, we volunteered at a church ON Thanksgiving day feeding the homeless, and we plan on doing it again on Christmas day. now look at that, I've only been Greek for a couple of weeks!

Kappa Alpha Psi held. Did not get home until 4am BUT... Got up at 8am to help the brothers of Omega Psi Phi feed the homeless of Harlem and Washington Heights. While I got up early to help the Omegas, the Nupes I had party with all night got up even earlier to feed the homeless in Queens, NY.
I was sooo happy to see us make our founders proud. It also made me realize that sometime we do not do as much as we could and should. I also want to thanks all the SORHORS who helped, the Ladies of ZETA PHI BETA Sorority, Inc. as well as DELTA SIGMA THETA Sorority, Inc. for coming out. We had a great time serving the food and preparing everything. I hoped to see a few members of all orgs. but I rather think they were doing their own separate service as
KAPPA ALPHA PSI Fraternity, Inc. did. For real people, I think we understimate our power to change people's lifes. Even if for a day or their entire lifes.

Girl, You're activities sound real familiar to me! I just realized you were from New York. I was supposed to help out the brothers of Omega Psi Phi up in harlem Thanksgiving morning, but had another church to help out. Alpha Kappa Alpha did have their own thing going on Was this church around Convent Ave? I will bet money we know the same people...dang the Greek world really is small!

I know I'm late, but my chapter has been up to some great things lately, including:

-sending care packages to the freshmen recipients of our scholarships;

-holding our annual fundraising event, attended by more than 2,000 people, and raising an estimated $90K for our scholarship and community programs;

-donating clothes and other personal items for a "shopping day" at a local women and children's home;

-conducting a coat drive to provide warm, new coats to individuals in need.

On a personal note, I've gotten off my butt to mentor a young parent, and my volunteer orientation is this Thursday.

Excellent topic, prettypoodle!

My (Alumnae) chapter has just been organized, and recognized by our Nationals. We've been primarily focused on establishing the Chapter, interacting with our Active Chapter, and planning for the future. The effort I'm most proud of is that alumnae in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area are actively involved establishing our newest Colony (UT-Arlington) grow into a Chapter. Also, alumnae in the Norman, OK area are remaining involved with the Active Chapter on campus.

The Active Chapter has gotten more involved on campus this year. They participated in a fraternity philanthropy soccer tournament, and organized a masquerade ball. They also worked at E-Club hamburger feeds on home-game days. I'm most proud of the Active Chapter for organizing and implementing our National Convention, recruiting and educating an excellent candidate class, and serving as Big Sisters to the new Colony.

My chapter just got through helping sponser AIDs week here at my school. We had panels of the AIDs quilt being showcased and hosted a number of lectures throughout the week. This week, we are helping with the town's tour of historic homes. Of course, we are always trying to raise money for Alpha Gamma Foundation that supports the Juv. Diabetes Foundation=)

My chapter is doing a clothing and can food drive. We are also collecting money for toys for tots and Project Reassurance. We also plan to go to a few soups kitchens and visit the childrens hosptial. We're going to put on a Christmas play for them. My chapter is small (3 members) but GREATER SERVICE, GREATER PROGRESS prevails. Much Love to everyone during the holidays.

Seemed like time to bump this one back up.

Our alum chapter donated toys at Christmas to a "giving tree" and we are going to be participating in our city's alumnae Panhel luncheon, which awards scholarships to deserving Greek women in the area.

We had a leave raking a-thon for all the people in the town, who paid the chapter to rake their leaves. We then donated the money to a local child with leukemia. He is so cute. We also do adopt-a-highway, a fun night at the state hospital, thanksgiving at a homeless shelter, help in renovating the women's center, and take back the night.

As AlphaGamGirl mentioned earlier, our national philanthropy is the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation--an organization that helps fund research and support for the Juvenile Diabetes foundation. From bake sales, rose grams, candy grams, and the all popular car washes--whatever money we raise goes to them.

Last semester my chapter had the opportunity to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald house in our community. The house provides lodging for families with children undergoing treatment at local hospitals. My chapter had a blast cooking dinners for them and playing with the kids. The best part was seeing those smiles on the children's faces. Despite going through some hard times these children still know how to smile and have a good time, and to me, that's all that matters!

As previousouly reported, We also do a Nationl Food drive for the needy. We do a Tub-A-Thon with a Soro.. 24 hrs in a hot tub to raise $ , also have Western Week that does the same thing. We also do help a highway. We have a benefactor IN A NURSEING HOME that we visit weekly and have offered to bring our Founders Day Buffet to the home for the people there to share with them our good fortune and glee of being with The Brothers who have come back. Some of the Lambda Chi Alpha chapters do the Water Melon Fest as a fund raiser with the Soros. The problem is no matter what we do for the good, it is not good press. That is why all the good that we do is over shadowed by the small bad.

This week is Homecoming week, so we have a lot going on. We're campaigning for our Queen contestant, helping with the Blood Drives and stuff like that.

Our biggest philanthropy event each year is Songfest where all student organizations can participate. Usually only the Greek organizations participate, but everyone is invited. Songfest is where each group gets up to perform songs infront of a crowd to raise money for the Cancer Research Center here on campus. It is a huge undertaking, but it is soooo worth it and it is so much fun. Our last Songfest in October was a great success.
