Hey, don't worry so much!

I seriously have MANY different sororities in my family! They are pretty much all in different orgs. which to me signifies that you should just pick whichever one fits you.

Heck, I am part of a re-charter of an NPC on my campus! and no one in my family is in this GLO.

Some people may ask if you have family in any org. - If they ask, just say that you do, but would prefer not to say (unless it is that one). I went through rush and didn't feel at home in any particular one, but with my new sisters I do!

Good Luck!

That experience alone gives me a bad taste in my mouth about girls who have already de-pledged another chapter. Not saying that all pnms are like that - but after experiencing it once, it's enough to make you stop and go "hmmm, she depledged them....whats to say she's not going to depledge or drop membership with us too?"
It sounds like she thought "hey, this is a colony, it will be 180 degrees totally different than an established group!" and it wasn't. When PSS recolonized on our campus, I think they had quite a few women join with that mindset too.

Thanks for more info on colonies.

I was wondering, if rush is mid-August, what should my timeline be for getting everything together? Like, when should I be getting recs by and stuff?

Honestly, IMHO you can never start too early. Recs can take time to locate, plus the alumnae has to have time to write the rec and send it to the chapter. It's also helpful to ask around with your high school teachers, so starting early is an advantage with that, too.

The last thing you want to end up with is a mad scramble in August where you are trying to gather recs, plan for recruitment, say goodbye to people from your hometown, and move all at once.

I'm glad to hear you are considering the colonizing sorority. If you have any other questions about the process, I'm happy to answer them based on my own experience.
