So I spent the night in the ER. The pain was so bad and it was getting to the point where I couldn't take deep breaths and I thought it was the gas that hadn't escaped yet. They did x-rays, gave me fluids in an IV (apparently I was very dehydrated), and then gave me Dilaudid (sp?) and some anti-nausea medicine. I slept like a baby and felt alot better. I did wake up with a headache but I think it's cuz of the way I was sleeping. I took a Vicodin (crushed up... yuck) and slept a little. Still have a headache but now I'm drinking Gatorade and eating some dry Kix and Honey Bunches of Oats. Feeling so much better!

My first thought: How addictive is GC that someone is on here the day after gallbladder surgery?

I had mine taken out 5 years ago. I pretty much slept for the first 2 days, would wake up, take pain medicine, eat a sandwich and go back to sleep.

I haven't had the food problems described, but on 2 different occassions, I have had the same exact type of pain that I had with the gallbladder attacks. The dr. can't explain it.

I haven't had that surgery, just a bowel re-section to remove parts of my large and small intestines due to Crohn's. The after-effects are very similar to gall bladder surgery though and they often put people like me on the same meds.. Welchol or Questran to absorb the fats that the bile can't bind too. It's just for different reasons.

A guy I work with has had the same issues as LaneSig. He had his gall bladder removed a little over a year ago, and has been to the emergency room three times because of pain. He said it felt the same, too, but since he had the surgery, he thought he must be having a heart attack. They haven't figured out the source of his pain/attacks, either.

Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Mine was 2. Yeah, those were fun times. Even eating something as neutral as toast was throwing me into massive pain attacks.

Not addicted, just insanely bored. I can't take this anymore and it's only been 3 days!

2??? Holy crap I thought mine was bad.

I just ate some dry meat loaf and small boiled potatoes with light butter. So far I just feel like I over-ate, a little bit of a tummy ache. So far so good!

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who can pretty much eat whatever now! Dairy has always had a weird affect on my stomach and it's a little worse now, and garlicy stuff still gives me the same achey affect.

How long did you wait to start lifting things? Or how about sleeping on your stomach?

I had mine out roughly a month ago over spring break - what a way to spend it! I remember the first time I had the pain, back in September. It first began right after I got the first HPV shot, and would be a nuisance for a few days, then stop completely...until the next HPV shot 2 months later. It always seemed to be connected to the shots until I had a horrendous attack near Christmas in which I thought I was seriously going to die. I was definitely hysterical on the phone to my parents, who freaked out - funny enough, though, I didn't go to the hospital to get it checked out until later in January.

My surgery went faster than expected, and the pain was bad, but I was able to get out of bed on my own after a few hours. What was the worst was the pain in my shoulder from the Co2 gas - the pain made me practically hyperventilate, which increased the pain in my stomach because I would tighten it. I actually went to work that Thursday night (I had the surgery on Tuesday) because I felt so much better. Wednesday wasn't that fun, but by the next day I was sooooo bored.

My instructions were to not lift over 10 pounds, dance, or run for about 3-3 1/2 weeks after it. I started dancing again a few weeks ago, and everything is going well, except I've been bad and have eaten some fatty foods, which makes me regret it a bit later. It really depends on what your doctor advises - they gave me some leeway on dance because they said I was young and healthy. Listen to your body - it'll tell you if something is hurting, so take it easy.

I was in excruciating pain the night after but the ER doc said it wasn't the CO2 gas that was causing it. It's been 6 days and I still feel pain across my shoulder blades and I'm still getting heartburn pretty bad. I go to the doctor Wednesday to make sure everything is ok.

I had mine out in December- scars look fine (had the laproscopy) and I still can't eat Mexican or lots or green leafy veggies without a two hour bout in the toilet (occassionally I HAVE to have Mexican!!!) other than that- I lost twenty pounds....
The HIDA scan numbers I knew nothing about- mine was a seven- the scan didn't bother me at all, I slept through it!!!
I literally had no issues until I woke up one Monday feeling someone kicked me in my stomach, Tuesday I went to the doc and she told me to go to ER immediately. I was supposed to go to England with my fiance, but uh, nope- had surgery Wednesday and went home Thursday!!
I had some major gas issues for like a month, the doc said since I wasn't really overweight the gas filled up a lot of small spaces and was "working" its way out.
Fiance and I got over the farting in front of each other REALLY quickly after that surgery!

I'm CRAVING Mexican and even salad (which I never really crave). So far in a week I've lost 8lbs which I have NO problem with. The only thing bad is that I can feel my sugar being low and a popsicle helps that but the frozen thing isn't so great.

The gas thing is ridiculous. I wish farting in public was a normal, non-embarrassing thing but gosh damnit it's not so you gota hold it in and that hurts.

My doctor said that some people have some issues with foods for up to a year-
I went to QDoba last month and then to Michaels to buy some stuff for my wedding... while there I HAD to use the bathroom- I actually locked the door when I went in because I just knew... so beware, after salad or mexican, you WILL need to be near a bathroom.
And you can't hold that back, either.

As for the passing gas- honestly I got quite good at coughing and letting some "slip"....
I don't know about you but when I woke up my stomach stuck WAY out- and that hurt more than anything... until the drugs wore off. The stitches in the center right through my abdominal muscles kept feeling like they were ripping my body apart.

They took my appendix out at the same time. The doc said he was surprised more people didn't ask for that since they are in the area- mine actually needed to come out. So it was necessary but you could ask the doc... for future reference for anyone else needing their gallbladder out!

Those of you with issues with the post-surgical runs...PLEASE talk to your doctor about Colestid. It really HAS worked wonders for me!

It's been about 9 months and I'm starting to have the same symptoms I did that lead up to my removal. The pain has been getting so uncomfortable. It just feels like incredible pressure. I'm having another ultrasound tomorrow. My family doctor said sometimes they don't get all of the gallbladder out. If this is true and what's happening in my case, I'm going to be LIVID if I have to pay for another surgery. Could this be considered malpractice?
