That's ok, we don't all have to agree

So today in class, a girl told us she found out that it stands for "International Wigger Month" - have any of you ever heard of this, or is this just something idiots on my campus do?
I was under the impression that it stood for "Incomprehensible Widespread Message." Actually, i think it was just a dumb prank making fun of the extensive chalking used by some groups. Unless given more evidence to substantiate your meaning, that remains my opinion.

That's like saying that since the lifetime odds of being killed by a wasp, bee or hornet sting are about 69,000:1, then something must be done about this horrible stinging insect plague that is sweeping the country.

Even one person dying from a bee sting is too many but it does not mean that there is a bee epidemic out there.

And even one person having their dorm/home/hallway vandalized is too many but it simply does not make it an epidemic.
even if it was happening everyday, someone would spout off about how it isn't happening every hour.

I hope that's what it means - where did you hear that? I've been confused everytime they've done it, lol.

It's not an inclusive statement; I meant to anyone.

don't act like it wouldn't happen.

in fact, these days...it's more prevalent than you would expect.

well, to someone who isn't the victim...do you honestly think that your opinion would actually matter on these things?

i'd listen to someone who had this happen to them vs. someone who didn't.

i don't think your opinion would actually be representative of hate crime victims.

I have to admit I'm upset that anyone would say it's not that big of a deal. I guess it's a case of actually having to live through racial and homophobic slurs in order to understand the feeling one would get to have their place of residence VANDALIZED for all to see.

Recently racial slurs were graffiti-ed onto the walls of a prominent, very racially inclusive church in Tallahassee. It just comes to show you we haven't progressed as a society as much as we pride ourselves after all.

Do you really think you know enough about my life to surmise what I may or may not have fallen victim to in the past? Or is it an unsupported assumption you're making based on my opinion regarding the magic marker men?

You don't have the right to lecture me on perspective.

That said, I feel like this exchange between two people who always know they're correct is pretty fruitless so we'll have to agree that we don't agree and move on.

If I had to bet, I would agree with you.

I want to see what classifies as a hate crime.

Nobody knows what is happening yet they're all screaming about the epidemic at large in this University. How about you all actually look into it and then make your judgement. Bandwagons are senseless.

And Columbia students should be smarter than this, or, better phrased, they shouldn't be as stupid as this.

i'm not talkin about you, but you weren't the victim in this particular case. don't take it personal, it's the net.

i personally don't really care whether or not you've ever been a victim or racial hate crimes in the past, but somehow i doubt it. either way, you don't have the right to tell anyone how much is too much if they're the victim.

sounds pretty common place for somewhere that's supposed to be an elite institution of of higher "edumacation."

not the most reputable for the GC source nazi's, but a definition.

if everyone ignores this, its not an issue,

I know Columbia is a big SEC deep south powerhouse deeply induated in racism, the problem is incredibly pressing and widespread.
