Another glowing endorsement of the Canon Digital ELPH series. I love mine--it's smaller than a pack of cigarettes, and takes amazing pictures.

Sony is also a great camera maker---I took one to SE Asia when I was there this past winter. I used the VGA setting, which is primarily for screen (lowish resolution) display, as it allowed me to take 170 pictures on each Memory Stick. They look amazing onscreen, and are even pretty good printed out (4 by 6 inches). For full resolution pics, the results are just as good.

My grandmother just gave me her digital camera - a Canon PowerShot S400. She is completely anti-technology and never used it. The thing is, the only thing she gave me was the camera. No box, no book, nothing. I have been playing with it trying to figure everything out and now the "low battery" signal is starting to show.

Does anyone know anything about these cameras? Do I just need to buy a battery or am I going to need to get a charger? I asked my grandmother but she has no idea and says if anything else came with the camera - she didn't know where it was. This is my first digital camera, so I am just as clueless as my grandmother! HELP!

Yeah, so those douches at Canan gave me a 16mb memory card. I can take 6 pictures with it. Gag me with a spoon. Now I have to spend another 50-100 bux to get a dope memory card? I guess i gotta whore myself on Sunset.
my memory card was under $30 and it holds over 200 pictures... how many pictures do you need to hold?!

I bought a 1 GB SD card for $50. Don't get anything less. It's a pain in the butt to keep switching.

I just want to reiterate what I said in the other camera threads. Cameras are not little computers so I don't understand why people want tiny cameras. I would get a good 5 megapixel camera with a good lens. I'm very happy with my Panasonic Lumix camera that uses a Leica lens given that those Zeiss lenses go for thousands of bucks. Sony's lenses are not special lenses so it's a marketing ploy.

What I am trying to figure out is how much it would cost to get a camera that can take night pictures. I don't know enough about that and every digital camera I have seen has some issues with graininess or not focusing well enough at night. I don't know if it gets better once you move out of the $500 range and if I have time I'll try and look for some website that has info.

Check out this website:

I googled the name of your camera and the word instructions. I hope this helps.

This page has instruction manuals:

My dad has the 770 and he loves it - he took it with him to Alaska and the pictures turned out awesome.

10 megapixels, however, is a little overkill if all you're going to do is print or order 4x6s. If you are doing 8x10s or poster-sized, however, the quality with the 770 is going to be a lot higher than cameras with fewer megapixels. If you find a particularly beautiful landscape and want to frame it I'd go with the 770.
