This show has been suspended. According to www.hot97.com website:

"New York City - Miss Jones and the HOT 97 Morning team have been indefinitely suspended for the airing of a song that made light of a catastrophic event, as well as comments made at the time the song was aired.

Earlier this week, Miss Jones said on the air "I apologize to all who have been offended by my poor decision to go along with playing that insulting (to say the least) Tsunami song. I should have known better and I didn't. So I'm sorry and hopefully we can move forward from this, or I can move forward from this being a better hostess, because I am better than that, and I know better than that -- and you deserve better radio than that."

While Miss Jones has apologized on the air, in the media and on the HOT 97 website, station management felt that stronger action was necessary to demonstrate the severity of the situation.

Emmis Radio and HOT 97 will not tolerate such derogatory and racially insensitive content. This incident in no way reflects the spirit of HOT 97. The station has a long-time and well-known reputation for community involvement and support.

Emmis Radio President Rick Cummings said, "What happened is morally and socially indefensible. All involved, myself included, are ashamed and deeply sorry. I know the members of the morning show are truly contrite. They know their actions here are inexcusable."
We would like to clarify that no company advertising on our station had any connection to the Tsunami Song and no company advertising on our station endorsed or sponsored the offensive material aired on the "Miss Jones in the Morning" show._ We apologize for any misunderstanding that may have caused listeners to believe that anyone, other than the morning show staff, was responsible for the material that should not have been aired."

Whoa. Normally I am pretty un-PC myself, but at least I try not to be offensive and hurtful...I can't believe that. That show needed to be suspended!

About the title of this thread. No offense, you can't say a whole radio station is racist b/c of some stupid a$$ things that CERTAIN ppl (meaning SOME members of the morning show did). Miss Jones was a plain ignorant dumba$$ (scuse the lang but it's true) for what she did. Majority of the time that station owners and other personnel don't know what a producer and their set of radio personalities are going to put on the air, until it's actually on.

pure stupidity.
local station played clips of it friday and verbally just shook their heads.
as they said, everyone writes song parodies, but some things are just inappropriate -- and this in one of the top markets in the nation.

actually that's not necessarily true. i used to listen to portions of the morning show on my way to work and i have heard (with my own ears) what i take to be derogatory and racist remarks. it is not a friendly and accepting radio station. many callers had opinions about people (mainly white) and the hosts would laugh and agree with their statements.

i know. i've listened. station owners should know what is going on at all times. this wasn't played once. it aired for SEVERAL DAYS! if they didn't know what was going on, they're fools.

I personally don't like listening to HOT 97 because they make black people look like fools. They had to be pressured into making the NEWS a featured part of their broadcasts. The only thing they play is music and celebrity nonsense. And, they've also gotten into trouble because of what their ignorant DJ's broadcast over and over again. They don't really do much for the community but continue to air BS that makes us look bad...

I think you're right! It was the talk of the town right after it happened.

hmm... well we had a song in germany before the tsunami, called
"Perfekte Welle" = "Perfect Wave"

no radio station was allowed to air it since the tsunami, thuogh its a nice song.

hard to get aware of such "jokes"

but i think the whole thing about tsunami and "we donate" is a JOKE, i bet nobody would have really cared if it was off-season and "only"
asians would have died.that sucks most!

there wouldnt have been 500mill euros sent down there, if some germans had not died. that sucks too!

it became an inner and foreign politics issue because of germans that died out there. our "Mr Money" Minister named Eichel tried to get advantages in front of EU-Parliament, we`re under pressure because our economy is lagging, one day after our chancellor said "We donate 500mill euros immediatly"
a f***ing noble world we`re living in

and now we`re selling "the german system"(pre-warn) to the states that have been hit by tsunami
the german economy will get some nice comissions

and bush may be said that tsunami did not hit north corea

im ashamed
