My Age: 23
My S/O's age: 28
Relationship Status: (dating/engaged/married.. and for how long): A little over a month of seriously dating
I gave: Season 1 of Arrested Development and a "Frodo/LoTR" Christmas ornament (because between he and his two roomies they had only three ornaments for the tree.)
I received: A flip flop necklace (because I forgot to get one this summer in Oahu, but this one is prettier), Sparkly lotion from Victoria's Secret, Sugar Free Godiva chocolate (didn't know they made it!) and a bottle of Sugar Free Gingerbread syrup
How it worked out: I LOVE gingerbread lattes but get rather irked with Starbucks when they discountinue it after the holidays. So I was stoked to get the syrup... in sugar free to boot. And he liked his stuff too. He goes on and on about Arrested Development.
Anything else: Not bad for only dating a month. He's pretty easy to shop for though. (Thank GOD.) And his brother's gf helped him get stuff for me.

his age: 31
status: married for 8 years-- been together 13years...
i gave him: 5- DVDs, 1 PS2 game, a mechanic jacket, a KU tshirt, CDs, hat, 5# can of cashews, and I know I am missing somehting else in there.
i received: a gift cert for a pedicure and manicure, a gift cert for a tanning package, another gift cert for a 90 minute hot stone massage, cash, purse, wallet, wool coat, CDs, DKNY Be Delicious body lotion (i was almost out) and lip gloss, and my husband and boys went to the Picture People (photography place) and had portraits taken of the 3 of them--they were cute!
It all worked out great-- i only returned the purse and wallet--didn't like the style, but i exchanged for another.

my age: 21
his age: 22
relationship status: dating exclusively for 2 months, but on and off dating for almost 3 years now
what I gave: engraved Fossil watch, Sharper Image world clock/radio
what I received: TiVo box, webcam
how it worked out: well, his brother also happened to get him a Fossil watch (almost same color too), so I was upset about that, but his brother's is really fancy and mine is more of an everyday watch, so I guess that worked out fine. We both were really happy with our gifts in the end

My age: 28
His age: 42
Relationship status: Engaged, living together 2 years
What I gave: Cashmere scarf, book on Puerto Ricans in NYC, Jets sweatshirt, pj pants, DVD, men's facial & massage certifcate
what I received: 2 cashmere sweaters, cashmere scarf, Godivas, pj's, diamond stud earrings
How it worked out: Excellent, he loved all his stuff. I also love mine, though I have to return one sweater b/c he got the wrong size. I also have to admit - I got the diamonds in the stocking AFTER we were done with presents. I always say stockings are for silly, little things. So I WAS thinking a bit "Geez, love the stuff, but I sure spent way more than I needed to on him". Then I opened my new bling and felt a little bad... But that was cured when I put them on!!!

My Age: 23
My S/O's age: 29
Relationship Status: dating for almost 3 months
I gave: Burberry's Brit cologne and cashmere lined leather gloves
I received: a cute bright pink heart shaped pillow, Benefit body cream and make up case. My big gift was a total surprise: Tickets to see the Christmas Show at Radio City and a fabulous dinner afterwards at Del Frisco's steakhouse.
How it worked out:Earlier in Dec we had cocktails at the Rainbow Room the night the lights were turned on at the tree in Rock. Center and I mentioned in passing how I'd never seen the Christmas Show there w/ the Rockettes. So the week of Christmas he tells me "I have a surprise for us Thurs nite" but all he told me about it was to look nice and get to his place by 7. So I think we're going to dinner, but he calls the day of to check that I'll be there by 7 and tells that we'll be eatiing dinner late. So now I don't know what to think, only I hope there's food cause it's 5pm and too late to make my own dinner! I get my luggage down to his place so I can fly out the next day, we have a cocktail and then get in a cab and head for "49th & 6th Ave please." he turns to me and says "Oh do you know where we're going yet? What's at 49th & 6th?" as he kinda winks at me "Well that's Rock. Center...." I process what that means at Christmas time having already seen the tree "We're going to see the Christmas show?!?!?!?!" Poor cab driver got a good yell in his ear I was so excited. We had great seats and afterwards the restaurant was kinda empty for a Thursday night so we could have great dinner conversation. When we got home we x-changed gifts and it was just a great evening! He's been showing his family around NYC this week and said the gloves have been lifesavers!
Anything else: Seeing the show may not seem like much but as a NYer I never ever saw it and knew as little girls my mom and aunt always were taken by their parents to see the Christmas and Easter show every year. This fall my grandma joined my grandpa in heaven and...it was just a nice 'full circle' sort of feeling to have sitting there in the gushy seats knowing my mommy, auntie and grandparents had been there before, all together as a family, as I sat there with a great man who I'm starting to fall in love with.

My Age: 20
S/O Age: 20
Relationship status: Dating about 4 months
I gave: A zip-up hoodie, 2 pairs of pj pants, 3 mix CDs I made
I received: A zip up hoodie, a set of scented tea lights & holder, concert tickets (Taste of Chaos)
How it worked out: Well, I knew that I wanted to get him tickets to Taste of Chaos, but I wasn't sure if he'd be able to go and I tried to ask him about it w/o being too obvious), in the end I decided to get him something else. It was fortunate I changed my mind, because he got me tickets to the show. Overall it worked out very well, I'm happy with what I got and he seems happy with what I got.

My Age: 25
My S/O's age: 23
Relationship Status: "talking" since early November
I gave: The Bookdocks Treasury by Aaron McGruder, a Sonia Sanchez spoken word CD, and a hot sauce sampler (lol).
I received: Not a God damn thing!
How it worked out: I'm bitter!
Anything else: All in all, I didn't spend THAT much on the gifts. I got him things that were reasonably priced and had some sort of meaning for the both of us. The expense was in the shipping to make sure it got to him by X-Mas. He didn't even pick it up until the week after.

My age: 26
My s/o age: 28
Relationship status: married 1 year 3 months
I gave: 3 framed Van Gogh prints he wanted, Pirates of the Caribean DVD, wool sweater, cashmere scarf, socks and underwear (as a joke)
I got: ballet lessons, 2 sets of T-shirt sheets from Linen's and Things, a Coach purse, and some diamond and sapphire earrings ( those were a shock!! )
How it worked out: great!! Except I felt bad that he spent waaaay more money on me than I did on him. I got over it fast though! He totally spoils me, but he said he was making up for last year ( last December was hell-both our cars broke down in the same week, we had a wedding to go to so we spent alot of money on hotel/tickets/presents, etc-so we couldn't buy each other much last year. He jokes that last year for Xmas I got a new clutch on my car!)

My age: 24
SO age: 24
Been together for 7 months.
I gave a Cashmere sweater, a scarf, and another shirt from J. Crew
I got a new (great) pair of jeans, Law & Order SVU DVD, some earrings and a top to wear with my jeans & earrings.
How it worked out: Great. Normally I wouldn'r recommend buying me clothes, especially jeans because I feel that I am hard to fit...however to my surprise they fit perfect. I couldn't beleive he guessed my size. Usually I have to try on like 5 pair before I find a pair that fits. But yeah, it proved that he knows me well I guess.
