That date sounds bad for many reasons, the least of which is paying with a gift certificate.

I like douchetastic. It's a new word for me.

You ladies have difficulties finding men so I wouldn't discriminate on the basis of coupons if I were you.

A guy I went out with once took me to TGIFridays for dinner and since most of the people my age I knew were not making a ton of money, I told him I wanted to pay for half the check. He said ok and told me what my portion was then set out HIS half of the check which included a $5.00 off the total bill coupon!

Now THAT, my friends, is douchetastic!

I think it depends on where he took me. Lets say the boy takes me to a very nice place on a first date (something normally way out of my budget- like $30-40 a plate or a place without prices on the menu), and I find out that the reason he can afford it is because he has some kind of gift certificate that he got from work, or at a charity raffle or what have you. That's fine with me! I don't expect anyone to drop more than $80 on a nice dinner for two. Actually, I would be a bit flattered that he wanted to take me to a place he could only afford once.
Now, if someone had an entertainment book and wanted to take me to a place in the book simply to use a coupon I would be peeved on a first date. Later in a relationship I’d be all about the coupons (I have a few local places I love and I will only go to when I have the coupons), but not the first date.

This is actually pretty funny that you mentioned this right now.. a couple of weekends ago the first time that this guy and i went out to eat together he used a gift certificate. We had been hanging out already and mentioned he had one and wanted to see if I wanted to go out to dinner with him. In this situation I wasn’t bothered at all by it. I think it really depends on the situation. The next weekend he came to visit me and we went out on a “first date” and he bought me flowers and everything.

Anyways.. I think I would be more bothered by the lateness unless he had a damn good excuse than using a gift certificate.
