neither does giving them a week off if they complete them.

but i've also disovered that mentioning that i'm having locks put in all the cabinets in the kitchen and on the laundry door and that i'm willing to restrict those rooms usage if they aren't cleaned seems to be working.
hehehe this is an older post, but it seriously cracks me up

Philanthropy- 80
Monthly CBM meeting- 75
Weekly chapter- 50
COR- 50

You HAVE to make at least 85% of the available points EACH month or you are on PROBATION which means NO littles, socials, date parties, formal, or semi- formal.

It works just fine for us because we're a very social chapter and people really want to be able to do those things.

This probably has been the best idea that i have seen, requiring 85% of montly participation then being put on probabation would should work for most chapters.

But do you have a problem with girls just getting that minimum 85%?

I would think that some girls would pick some events like Iniatiation which is worth 100 points over a weekly chapter of 50 points. Do they know the amount of points they have? What happens if a girl has an actual emergancy? and she missed a few events. How would the points work then?

we did the point system in my chapter where we had to have 85% of all total points in order to go to formal, etc.

fining people doesn't work, especially for people who have to raise money for their own dues. and for those who have a lot of money, it doesn't make a dent. if people don't want to go to formal and other social events, they won't care anyway if they don't have the points.

everyone should want to go to chapter events, but honestly, sometimes you just don't want to go. as long as it's not a chronic problem, i'd rather have 50 women attend a function who really want to be there and work than 80 women attend where only half want to do the work.

Lil3l3phant,

We really don't have any problems b/c everyone wants to be able to go to formals, etc. Yes, girls are kept informed of their points.

If something is worth points, and you can't attend, you must submit an excuse at least 2 weeks before the event. It has to be approved by Exec. It has to be a reasonable excuse (class, unaviodable work, illness, or something like that).

If something comes up the day of an event (example: I came down with a kidney infection the day of an initiation) you just have to meet with Exec. to explain. They'll excuse you. Whenever you're excused, you get the points.

Our requirements and fines are very clearly outlined in our bylaws. We've just had a change to the fine structure. We used to have to do a house duty every week, as long as it was done before chapter, it was cool. But the non-house residents ended up cleaning up a lot of things that should have been done by house residents. So what happened was that house duties will be on a "as needed" basis, which will be outlined at that week's chapter meeting, giving each girl a week to complete her duty. For recruitment, all bets are off. That house is spick and span or there's hell to pay (really, just a pretty decent sized fine). For homecoming, GW, and Alumni Day, it's the same. Fines are also assessed for missing more than 2 meetings without notifying our secretary. The "I need to study" excuse is OK for these 2 times, but not after. Afterwards the fines start. I really don't think that people have been fined a whole lot...usually it's just the 2 dollar "forgot to do your house duty" fine.
