Maybe he needs to leave so that he can be the comedian that he once was. He sure doesn't need the money anymore.

That might have worked 10 years ago, but at this point, I don't think they will grow back.

Jimmy Fallon to succeed Conan O'Brien
Link
Quote:
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Saturday Night Live" veteran Jimmy Fallon was officially named on Monday to take Conan O'Brien's place on NBC next year when O'Brien succeeds Jay Leno as host of "The Tonight Show."
The announcement, which had been expected for weeks, was made during a press event from NBC headquarters in New York where O'Brien's "Late Night" show is taped.
The appointment of Fallon, long considered a leading contender for NBC's 12:35 a.m. time slot, completes a talent shuffle set in motion when the General Electric Co-owned network announced in 2004 that Leno would retire from "Tonight" in 2009 and that O'Brien would replace him.

Thoughts? I enjoyed him in his years at SNL, but for some reason I just don't think he'll be funny enough.

Is this the same Jimmy Fallon who didn't want to be the lone announcer on Weekend Update???
Along those lines...I know she's got a good gig now, but I honestly think Tina Fey would be a better choice than Jimmy Fallon. For some reason I think he'll hire a huge supporting cast & it'll be SNL on Monday/Tuesday etc.

I didn't enjoy him on SNL really. He laughed through all the sketches.

I loved Jimmy Fallon on SNL!!!
I do think Tina Fey would have been a much better choice. She has shown she can pull her own with being a writer and actress on SNL and 30 Rock! And she has written, produced, and starred in two major blockbusters, Mean Girls and Baby Mama!
What has Fallon done? Taxi Cab with Queen Latifiah?
Honestly, though I don't know if NBC will ever give a female her own major program like that. I could be wrong....

ummm... couldn't they find anyone better. Conan is a little more of a late late late night comic. He appeals to the young, and is kind of out there. I would love to see them pull in some fresh face, i.e. someone who doesn't already have a late night talk show.

im REALLY against Jimmy Fallon's non-funny ass taking over for Conan. While Tina Fey is funnier, i dont think shes funny enough (or rather, the right "funny") for late-nite. saturday nights are enough, IMO. and true, the whole "what, a woman on late nite?!" thing will attract more of an audience than her actually hosting it.
