You should start a book trading or buying group in your sorority or with the entire campus. Find people who took classes that you want to take and trade or buy your books.

It really sucks when prices go up, but your salary stays the same.

Just a thought, but as a fraternity/sorority, if the treasure and academic chair were to work together and say that if each person gave a book to the chapter (holding about 5 for each class) and each person got $10 off of dues for each class, it might help save the other chapter members money on books in the future.

Just a thought.

Tuition is going up here, too...it does that every year, but this year it made a BIG jump! I'm not too happy, but I guess I'll just have to hush up and pay it.

Tuition has gone up here again for next year. Book prices aren't too bad, Barnes and Noble are usually high so everyone goes to the mom and pop owned book store for books. It's great...plus they offer more back on books at the end of the semester than B&N does. But geez....I'll never get loans paid off....scary thought. I'm poor and I'll be poor for the rest of my life just to pay off school loans. Plus, our president of school is some stupid cow...she thinks history professors can teach chemistry no problem. Man, I'd like to hit her with a frying pan........a cast iron frying pan!

Yup. Welcome to the world. I just graduated with my Master's. Tuition alone was about $20,000 each year for 3 years. I made about that much at my job for the year and you all can imagine how expensive it is to live in NYC. My last year I had to take out a private loan just to live on. I owe about $80,000 in student loans between undergrad and grad. I am looking forward to paying that on a Social Worker's salary. I am keeping my fingers crossed that one day in the future loan forebearance will go through.

That's an awesome idea! WOW! I'll have to tell our ladies about this. It would really help out I'm sure. Thanks a lot!

I was too poor to get a lil this past spring but I definitely hope to have saved anough $ to gt one for the fall. I am a SK from Long Beach & I love it here.
Tuition is the pits. I just paid over $500 dollars for ONE class. It's my summer school class & I paid that much money. I believe tuition for one semester is up over $1200 dollars a semester. In comparison to some schools, I know it's not a lot of money but when you are sooooo limited with your budget, it's freaking HARD! Plus, I got a notice that I do not qualify for financial aid b/c my GPA fell below 3.2 so that sucks. I didn't realize financial aid requirements were really that strict!

TWO WORDS - FAFSA (financial aid which gives you grants) and Amazon.com you can sell books for at least HALF, sometimes even 75 percent of what you paid. I am proof!! I have even sold books and even got most of what I paid for the books back!! I have sold 90 dollars book for 60 dollars!! not bad!! the budget increase doesnt touch me since I get financial aid

First of all don't blame Arnold we were left this mess by Gray Davis. I understand your pain as I go to a UC and tuition has increased even more dramatically than at the Cal State's. Your comment about Financial Aid seems a little bit weird b/c the requirements for aid are simply a 2.0 to qualify for a Cal Grant, as well as a Federal Pell Grant. You are eligible for a Cal Grant A with a 3.0 or above and a Cal Grant B with a 2.0 or above (it doesn't really matter as the Cal Grant B offers you more cash). I believe that Arnold's increases in tuition are supposed to be temporary until California can pull itself out of the heaping mess left by Gray Davis.

Keep your hopes high LBSU Sigma Kappa, everything will work out.

By the way do you know any SigEp's at LBSU? One of my good friends is in their house.

I wish I paid $500 for a class. I'm here at school this summer for a mini-mester (5 weeks) taking 2 classes, and each one cost me about $2300!

Okay so I read this earlier and thought it would be a good idea to sell books on Amazon, so I went through my stuff and listed a bunch of my books (I'm in law school) and 2 have already sold today for like 75% of what I paid. If you don't destroy your books this is such a great option! Such a good suggestion!!!!! Thanks!

As a matter of fact, we were paired with the Sig Eps during Greek Week so I do know quite a few of them.
