I have took classes from 8 AM to 6 PM and I like the morning classes, but it has to be on a subject that I like. If not, boring!

LOL! That's why students inhale so much caffeine!

Good for Duke!
I had an 8 am class my first semester in college, and NEVER AGAIN!!!! My first class did not begin until at least 9.

Only in college did I oversleep for a 12 NOON class. LOL
I hated 8:00 classes and 9:00 ones too except if they were my ed classes.

Most of our classes started at 9, except for a few 8am ones here and there, like Chem lab.

The story is wrong!
Duke DID eliminate 8 am classes, they now begin at 8:30.
But it wasn't b/c of sleep deprivation!
See: http://www.dukenews.duke.edu/news/story_0404.html
It's funny; I saw the information about this on CNN as I was sitting in my dorm room, thinking, "they're wrong!" I go to Duke and unfortunately, sleep deprivation was NOT on the tip of the administrators' tongues.

If you think 8 am classes are bad, try being a nursing major where they think nothing of scheduling lectures/ labs/ clinicals for 7... as in 0700, 7 AM- YIKES. And if it was a clinical, we were expected to be there by 0630 (double yikes!) Sometimes I'm amazed that this night owl graduated!

My stepdad went to the same school I did, and when he was there he had a 7 AM class. Glad they don't have those anymore!

Hate to break it to ya'll but once you hit the "real world" you're going to have to be at work at 8 and you can't be in the jeans and t-shirt you threw on in 5 minutes, and it's not a 10 minute walk across campus to get there, it's a 45 minute drive AND you had to get two kids up and dressed and to latch key before you got to leave for work.
Think of early classes as practice for reality!
I was a morning person, planned my classes from 8 am - noon every day. Studied for a couple hours after lunch, took a nap and had the whole evening to do whatever I wanted! It was great.
I miss those schedules!

For some reason I could never make it to my 8 am classes. I was always exhausted. When, I got into the "real world" I was amazed that I could get my butt up and be at work anywhere between 6 and 7. (The workday didn't start til 8 but some of us would get there early to get a jumpstart on work.) I think the major difference was that since I was in my own place I could go to bed earlier and get more rest than I could when I lived in the dorms
