paul,
one other thing that you may not know about u.s. greek organizations is that we all work hard to raise money for charities. most organizations have a national philanthropy that members contribute to with money and sometimes their time. for instance, alpha delta pi sorority has the ronald mcdonald house as their national philanthropy, and chapters that are located in a city that actually has a ronald mcdonald house may donate not only money but volunteer to staff the house. ronald mcdonald houses are places where families of hospitalized children can live while their child is in the hospital. my sorority, zeta tau alpha, has the susan g. komen breast cancer foundation as our national philanthropy and we help raise money to contribute to the komen foundation for breast cancer research through fund raisers . we contribute our time volunteering at "race for the cure" 5-k races, handing out information at national football league games about breast cancer and distributing breast cancer self examination cards and calendar reminders. in addition to supporting our national philanthropies, we usually donate time and money to local charities as well. we still have time for school and fun, though! congratulations on your pledgeship! lisa
