here's how our affliation goes: we have a voice but no vote. We don't vote on major NPC policies and things troubling national chapters (however a lot of things doesn't really apply to us anyway.) We can vote a few things but not everything.
We can't hold major positions in NPC. We are the Standards chair. So when everyone starts complaining about formal rush infractions they come to us (we don't participate in that either.)
We do participate in greek week. YAY!
We do pay NPC dues... which hike our prices a bit. (This is different from national dues from your national house. These dues just allow you to actually participate in NPC on campus.)
We do get some of the benefits of being an affliate. We don't have to follow every rule in the book but we are still asked to use good judgement and common sense. And we can participate in president's roundtable and end of the semester awards and whatnot. And there are certain events we need to participate in or else we get fined (speakers, community service, etc are some of things we go to each semester.)
But we get to participate in greek week and people know who you are right away if you are in NPC on campus. Sad but true. The greek website for CSUS only represents those on IFC and NPC. We have a lot more greeks that aren't listed.
