First I had a betta and 3 sharks. They were killed in an unfortunate tank cleaning incedent.... Then I then a 5 gallon tank with a betta and some neon tetras. The betta was named Lister, and the tetras were Kochanski, Rimmer, Holly, and The Cat after the tv show Red Dwarf. The tetras lived about a year, and Lister lived for almost 3. They all got along well, and didn't try to kill each other.

One of my suitemates had a little yellow bird that NEVER made any noises. A strange little bird for my strange little suitemate...

So, I'm at the mall with this boy from my dorms, and I'm like "ohhh, look at the cute puppies!! I want one sooo bad!"

The next afternoon the boy shows up with the puppy!

This would have been all fine and wonderful, except that we were only allowed to have fish in the dorms. About five of us from my floor took turns sneaking it down 5 flights of stairs to take it outside, and watched it at night, and attempted to keep it from barking. We had it for about two weeks, and then all got wise to the fact that there were some damn good reasons you aren't supposed to have pets in the dorms.

We gave it away to a local family.

We were only allowed to have fish. So I had a betta named Skully. He was killed soon after I graduated and entered the real world... my roommate's cats teamed up and drowned him one day by knocking him out of his bowl.

This same roommate was a girl I lived with in college too. We had a kitten named Woodstock in our room for all of two weeks before we got caught and were forced to give her away.

I also had a red-eared slider (that's a type of aquatic turtle, for those who didn't know) named Snoopy. I still have him.

When I was in college, a cat had four kittens in the garage at the temporary sorority house (we were in the process of building a new one). The house mother was going to get rid of them so my suite mates in the dorm (6 of us and 4 were Zetas) took them. Believe me, it was pure bedlam. We were on the first floor so we would leave the window open enough for the mother (Amber after the book "Forever Amber") to go in and out - it didn't take her long to figure out which was our window. Somehow we got away with it until the kittens were old enough to give away and we gave the mother cat to a good home too. I will never forget the day the kittens all got out and went racing down the hall where a lot of glass Coke bottles were sitting. They hit those bottles and it was just like bowling pins - the racket was awful!! I don't remember what we told the dorm mother but we had the kittens for several weeks before she came into my suite mate's room one day to find her studying in bed surrounded by cats. They went shortly after that. I suspect the dorm mother really knew and looked the other way - we really did get away with murder!! She was a good friend of the Zeta house mother and the dorm was full of Zeta's - we were her favorites and she let us get away with a lot that the other girls would get in trouble for!!

Though, we're only allowed to have fish, I have a dwarf hamster named Penny (pen-pen for short).

A few times the SA wandered into my room and I swore stared straight at it but never saw her. She's smaller than my palm, she couldn't hurt a fly!

Although I can't wait to get an apartment so I can get a kitten!

I rescued a cockatiel who was living in the dorms with his owner, who had to sell the bird because he made too much noise. (I had moved into an apt.)

That was 1987. I still have the bird.

(I renamed him Larry Bird.)
