Discogoddess, I'm with you, I do not pretend to be a biblical scholar.

Sweet Deliverance

I just want to say that "properous" doesn't necessarily have to be referring to finances.

Mary gave birth to baby JESUS in a manger, a nasty, funky, stank manger, where animals had been deficating, but she and Joseph were extremely blessed, and highly favored of God.

Moses had absolutely nothing when he left pharoah's palace. He didn't even know who he was, because he had been lied to all of his life. Yet, he was chosen of God to lead the Israelites.

Job was HIGHLY favored of God. God called Job his friend ( we talked about how deep that was in Hour of Power), yet, to prove a point, God removed all of Job's wealth, and turned his life upside down. Job was a FRIEND of God's, yet he was in financial ruins.

In my humble opinion, prosperity, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

Miss Mocha you are 100% correct. The Bible said we need to try the spirit by the spirit. What does this mean? Take everything that a 'man/woman of God" says and compare it to the Word. It not about if it sounds good or 'right'. Get a Strong's Concordance. There is even one on line that I use all of the time. You do not have to be a Bible Scholar or learn Greek or Hebrew to use one, but it certainly helps you delve deeper into the Word.

The Greek & Hebrew languages are 10 times more complex than English. Where we have 1 word they will have 5 or 6. The most popular example of this in the Bible is love. There is brotherly love, erotic love, 'like a lot', etc. that are all translated into the word 'love' (or charity, depending on the translation) in the modern English Bible. Just saying 'love' does not give the full piture of what was meant. Same thing with prosper. A quick review of the word 'prosper' in Strong's found the following meanings (the number corresponds to the Strong number):
07919--to be prudent, to have insight, act wisely

07951--to be at ease, prosper, to be or have quiet

03787--to succeed, please, be suitable

06743--to advance, make progress

So, as you can see, all of the mentions of prosper and prosperity in the Bible don't necessary have to do with the way we think of it today! Folks will quote the Bible and twist it up all kinds of ways. That is a trick of the enemy! If someone (originally I typed God, but after reviewing my message I realize that I had mis-typed) says I am to be prosperous if I do A, B or C then I am dictating God. That is a works based faith which is not biblical. There is nothing so good that we can do that will have us 'deserve' certain blessings.

A word to the wise--be careful who you listen to on TV/radio, etc. The Bible also says faith comes by hearing and things you 'hear' get in your spirit and begin to affect (or is it effect? I always get those mixed up!! ) how you act.

Eclipse

p.s. That was a whole lot to say without answering the question, wasn't it?

One side note, our minister teaches that the enemy knows the bible as well as christians. If you look in the book of Matthew where the enemy is tempting Jesus, he continues to reference the bible, by starting each temptation with, "It is written....."

HHHUUUMMMHH, just something to think about.

Shalom Everybody-

----Can't stay too long...working on a project/presentation that's due in two (2) weeks....Keep me lifted HIGH in your prayers everyone!

I am a Bible scholar-graduate (although anyone in their right mind knows you never graduate from learning); however, I am not going to reply back on this topic...I'm enjoying as well as learning from everyone's post.

I do want to comment on the following:
---Miss Mocha, Amen, Amen, Amen....You have me ROTF and I'm supposed to be taking a Pepsi
break...LOL!
---Eclipse, "Good looking out"! (Something my 21 year old brother says...I like the way it sounds) You get an A in Hermeneutics 101!

Okay, I've got to get back to the project at hand---

****Draw close to the LORD JESUS CHRIST, and HE will draw close to you!**** (Whew, I don't know who that one was for...but take it and relax in HIS love whoever needed that).

Love Ya Everybody!!!!

Shalom-

Miss. Mocha...you have me mixed up with someone else. I belive "Sweet Discretion" replied to this topic. I, Sweet Deliverance (Zeta), have not posted until now. Just wanted to clear that up. .

This is indeed a hot topic. As a Christian, I realize that even sisters and brothers in Christ don't have the same opinion on everything. I agree with some statements by various posters and disagree with others. Which things are agreed with or disagreed with is not important. It is important to keep in mind that humans make mistakes so don't put your trust in any person. The Word of God speaks for itself and means what it means. There should be nothing to arugue about Biblically where God has made statements and promises and what He has done. If He said it, that settles it. Discussing the circumstances surrounding issues is another thing. Do you understand what I mean? So, lets not get diverted from the Word by discussions that could lead anywhere. Concentrate on the Word and do your best to be found in the perfect (not permissive) will of God. All believers should be striving. Lets press toward the mark together. Have a blessed day!

Sweet Deliverance (ZETA) just joking girl... but really I wanted to say I agree with you. Sometimes we delve way too deep and I stand by what I stated before I like both Jakes and Crfleo!! The bible is a matter of interpretation and NO ONE person will get it all right, no matter how versed you are in it. So to each his/her own but just remember to keep your eye on the bigger prize and that is Our Lord and Savior and the bible; not who delivers it because as one stated on this board good and evil people are versed in the bible and not only should you be careful of televangelist but also be careful of some of your own pastors ...learn to listen to others AND be your own teacher and interpreter!!

Sweet Deliverance, I stand corrected. I have seen your name on other topics, and mistakenly referred to you when I did mean "Sweet Discretion".

Apologies. Miss. Mocha

Great responses everyone!!!

I just wanted every one to be aware that there are many false teachers out there and just to know to look to Jesus and His word for the real answers.

Shalom Everybody~

I tag-team with LadyAKA's comment...Keep your eyes on the prize---Our LORD & SAVIOR (what's HIS name?) JESUS!
SweetDeliverance, I send an "AMEN" with my hand waving in the air to you on your last comment/post.
.....and as for you Eclipse...don't be pushing my tired o' prespective out there!
Now you know I got nothing but love for you-and thanks for having my back with the encouragment on my presentation!

Lastly, Ladies (and brotha-men), have a blessed weekend coming up...and don't forget to spend some quiet time alone with the MASTER--HE waiting to hear a Love song from us!

P.S. Is anyone else having trouble with submitting replies? This is my third time writing to you all tonight----I'm being booted off too many times!

Shalom-
