Never! There's only one Tom Earp.

And oh my lord, is it ever hot. There's no AC at my house or my boyfriend's, and once I move into the sorority house on Saturday there'll be none there either.

It's not the heat, it's the heat and the humidity!!! I'm technically moved into my apt. but I'm staying at home as long as possible to enjoy the air conditioning!

Good Luck MiAngel on rushing this fall! You should do fine. We just pledged a junior this spring so it's not big deal. Granted this will be her senior year it's still one year that she has with the sorority and it makes a BIG difference. It's something you won't regret if you do decide to go through. Good luck again! I'm excited to hear all about your experience!

Cool

Hi you Mid-westeners

I've just transferred in to UWO (Oshkosh) and have made the decision to rush this fall. I'm coming in as a Sopomore but am a slightly older version of the average-aged college student (ie I took a couple years off for personal reasons.) Is being 25 and a Sophomore going to hurt my chances any?

Thanks for the input guys

~Christine

P.S. What is COB??

COB=Continious open bidding, or informal recruitment. A sorority that didn't make quota can continue to bid girls in an informal setting.

sueali did a good job of explaining COB, so I'll try to answer your other question.

My understanding is that, with the exception of Madion, most of the UW system Greek systems (LOL) are pretty laid back. Many of them only have 2-4 sororities and are on campuses where most people aren't into the whole Greek thing, so they always love to see new women interested in Greek life. I can't really speak with any authority, since I haven't attended any of the UW schools except for Madison, but my guess is that your class rank won't hurt you at all and your age probably won't hurt you too much, if at all.

Maybe GeekyPenguin can add to this, since she went to UW-Platteville and knows a little bit more about the kind of Greek atmosphere that some of the smaller UW schools have.

Good luck with rush and be sure to let us know how it goes!

HEY! I'm at Lawrence! Just up the road!

About Greek life: from what I've heard, Sugar and Spice is on the right track. I know that Tri-Sigma is at UW-O, and I think that Alpha Xi might be as well... I don't know. But good luck, and keep us posted! PM me if you need anything.

Rush @ Oshkosh

Oskosh Panhellenic

UW-Oshkosh has the following NPC sororities:
  • AXD
  • GFB
  • ZTA
  • SSS
  • FM

They also have Gamma Alpha Omega, which apparently is petitioning to be on Panhellenic there. I was a Gamma Phi at UW-Platteville and I know that their system is different because they have Panhell, but I haven't heard anything about their rush being horribly competitive. I doubt being a sophomore would hurt at all, but you are also a "non-traditonal" student because of your age, which may make a difference. I would try emailing the Panhellenic rush chair (contact info on the website) to see what she has to say.

UWO has a pretty good Greek system, from what I've heard - I know our chapter there is strong and I have met some Phi Mus and ZTAs from there who were also awesome!

Good luck!

Late night rambling

Ok so tomorrow is the Information Picnic...not offical registration... just something they have to "advertize" the greek system. Only a good 10% of students here are greek, so its out there, but not THE thing to do.

GAWD, I'm so nervous.

So here is a good story:

My sister is a freshman and she is not intrested in Rush so I stole the flyer they send out to all the incoming students. Glad I did, because I had to run out and get 12 pictures of myself that are required upon registration. So I dig to find a nice picture and I find a single proof of myself from my senior portrait. Now this is a proof...not a print. I take the proof to Walgreens to use that funky Kodak thing that makes photo copies. Now I have my 12 wallet sized photos on screen so I press print. Up pop pops the password thing so I have to grab the crabby old lady behind the photo counter. And she was fuming at me because it was a PROFESSIONAL PHOTO. I understand perfectly well that they have to becareful of copyright law, but what made me crack up is she didn't understand unless a person owns the proof (aka purchased it) there would be no way they could copy it anyway! A private citizen like myself would only have the proof because OWN it. So I sat there pleasantly trying to explain this and she had this total look of disbelief! I don't look like some punk and I know she has seen me there before! SO she huffs around the counter and makes me sign this contract that I would pay for any lawsuit against Walgreens if this was an illegaly copied photo.

OY...I should have just gone to Kinkos

I had the same problem at Kinko's! I was sending in some rec forms to different colleges, and they wouldn't let me make copies of the pictures!

So, at least two ADPi chapters think the woman in question is black & white...
